(Senior) Cloud Infrastructure Engineer (remote)

Conception is looking for a Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to join our growing team. The right candidate should have a strong background in object-oriented programming and 3-5 years of experience leading infrastructure development projects. This individual will work closely with a talented team of bioinformaticians and will be responsible for the deployment, lifecycle, stability, and extension of Conception’s computational and data storage resources. In this role, you will:

• Maintain and extend existing GCP-based compute infrastructure for Conception.

• Leverage Terraform, Git flow, and infrastructure-as-code (Iac) best practices for lifecycle management of core infrastructure resources.

• Apply software & security updates to all infrastructure components.

• Maintain cloud-based data storage infrastructure, ensuring data integrity and retention. 

• Maintain and improve our Django-based PostgreSQL database of biological sample metadata.

• Leverage Python to build and maintain serverless automated workflows to ensure timely data processing.

• Scope and lead a diverse portfolio of infrastructure projects to support the needs of bioinformatic and bench scientists at Conception with a focus on cost efficiency and scalability. 

Required skills:

• 3-5 years of prior experience as Cloud Infrastructure Engineer, Data Engineer, Software Engineer, or similar. Startup experience preferred. 

• Fluency in Terraform, Python, Bash

• Strong object-oriented programming skills and experience scaling computational pipelines 

• Linux system administration in AWS or GCP 

• Experience with standard container tooling (Docker, Singularity, Nextflow)

• Proactivity around optimizing infrastructure for cost, performance, and security

• Ability to scope and lead projects independently

• Ability to communicate about infrastructure to a diverse audience

• Proactivity around seeking input, gathering requirements, spotting potential problems, and unblocking others

• Comfortable wearing many hats

Preferred skills: 

• Database administration experience, especially PostgreSQL

• General knowledge of networking

• Familiarity with CI/CD and industry-standard practices for deployment of new code

• General interest in bioinformatics and biology
