Who You Are
You are an experienced Cloud Engineer with strong backend foundations and hands-on expertise in cloud infrastructure, distributed systems, and DevOps practices. You enjoy solving operational challenges through automation, observability, and tooling improvements. You excel in communication, thrive in cross-team collaboration, and take ownership of delivering high-impact, scalable solutions.
You are proactive, analytical, and motivated to ensure the reliability and performance of mission-critical data platforms.
What You’ll Do
- Support and operate Affirm’s large-scale data infrastructure systems across OLTP/OLAP, Streaming, and Batch workloads.
- Improve infrastructure reliability through automation, monitoring, observability, and incident response.
- Develop and enhance Python-based tooling and services to streamline operational workflows.
- Maintain and modernize Affirm’s Python ecosystem, ensuring compatibility with supported language and library versions.
- Automate development workflows to improve communication, visibility, and efficiency across teams.
- Respond to internal stakeholder questions and escalations, providing clear, accurate, and technically sound support.
- Create, refine, and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, onboarding materials, and operational dashboards for DSS platforms.
Must-Have Qualifications
- Strong programming experience in Python or Java.
- Hands-on experience with infrastructure operations, including AWS and Kubernetes/Docker.
- Proven track record maintaining large-scale distributed systems in production environments.
- Excellent communication and cross-team collaboration skills.
- Experience producing well-structured documentation, runbooks, and user guides.
- Experience with workflow orchestration tools: Airflow, Luigi, Dagster.
- Familiarity with data platform technologies such as Spark, Iceberg, MySQL, DynamoDB, Snowflake (Polaris).
- Knowledge of streaming and batch data processing pipelines.
- Experience maintaining shared infrastructure services used across multiple teams.
- Experience leveraging LLMs or AI tools to automate support or enhance engineering workflows.
