WHAT WE’RE SEEKING

As a Sr. Cloud Software Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, implementing, and maintaining cloud-based solutions. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in cloud architecture, distributed systems, and a passion for building scalable and reliable software applications that will allow us to modernize and consolidate IT infrastructure, automate workloads, and pursue next-generation innovation. To continue this transformation, we’re seeking an experienced Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud engineer who has expertise in the strategy, design, development, and implementation of large-scale projects in the cloud. 

The ideal candidate will have a firm grasp of emerging technologies, platforms, and applications and an ability to customize them to help our business become more secure and efficient. Extensive knowledge of cloud maintenance, experience in managing staff, and advanced industry knowledge are essential to keep us on the cutting edge. The cloud engineer will have an immediate impact on the day-to-day efficiency of IT operations and an ongoing impact on growth.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Work in tandem with our engineering team to identify and implement the most optimal cloud-based solutions for the company; architect and design scalable, reliable, and secure cloud-based solutions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand application requirements and design cloud infrastructure accordingly.
  • Participate in all aspects of the software development lifecycle for AWS solutions, including planning, requirements, development, testing, and quality assurance
  • Optimize cloud-based applications for scalability and performance.
  • Troubleshoot incidents, identify root causes, fix and document problems, and implement preventive measures
  • Implement security best practices and ensure compliance with industry standards.
  • Demonstrate exceptional problem-solving skills, with an ability to see and solve issues before they affect business productivity
  • Define and document best practices and strategies regarding application deployment and infrastructure maintenance

WHAT YOU BRING

Technical Skills

  • Bachelor's or higher degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Three or more years of experience in architecting, designing, developing, and implementing cloud solutions on AWS platforms
  • Proficiency in cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Experience in several of the following areas: database architecture, ETL, business intelligence, big data, machine learning, advanced analytics
  • Strong programming skills, preferably in languages like Python, Java, or Go.
  • Knowledge of containerization and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform or CloudFormation.
  • Experience with microservices architecture and RESTful APIs.
  • Understanding of security best practices for cloud environments.
  • Knowledge of serverless computing.
  • Experience with cloud-based databases and storage solutions.
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools.

Communication

  • You communicate what you can provide and what you need from people.
  • You are good at figuring out the underlying problem to solve and work well with other people in this regard.

Leadership

  • Collaborate with software engineers, DevOps teams, and other stakeholders to integrate cloud solutions into the overall software development lifecycle.
  • People learn something new every time they work with you.
  • You help others with specific, constructive feedback to support the growth and development of your peers.

Katmai is a fully remote company currently hiring in the United States and Canada.   The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are based on your job-related skills and experience and by location.   Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations and refers to the amount Katmai is willing to pay at the time of this posting.  Actual base salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to job-related skills, experience, performance, and work location.  The salary range listed is just one component of Katmai’s total compensation package for employees.  These ranges may be modified in the future

  • Location is United States: USD $130,000 and USD $170,000 for a Sr. Cloud Engineer
  • Location is Canada:   C$120,000 and C$150,000 for a Sr. Cloud Engineer
