Job Description
Enterprise Horizon Consulting Group is seeking a highly skilled Cloud Engineer to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of cloud technologies and a passion for designing and maintaining scalable, reliable cloud infrastructure. As a Cloud Engineer, you will work closely with our development and operations teams to ensure the seamless integration and performance of our cloud-based systems. This is a remote position.
Responsibilities may include:
- Develop and maintain infrastructure as code (IaC) using tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible.
- Work with Cyber, Testing, Delivery, Help Desk, Engineering, Architecture, Networking, Functional, Conversion, Training, Project Management and other internal and external teams to answer questions and provide input on Cloud Architecture and other technical components through the entire lifecycle of the project.
- Develop project software and hardware (cloud components) lists as required. Continually update based on current requirements.
- Develop ROM costs as required and review with Project and gov’t leadership. Assist with funding requests as required.
- Review and assess cloud hosting options. Maintain currency with AWS instance types, storage options and services to suggest highest performance and lowest cost options.
- Assist in the Design and Review of required architectural diagrams.
- Review and provide input on critical project documents such as Capabilities Requirements Document (CRD), Master Test Strategy (MTS), Cyber Security Strategy (CSS), Systems Engineering Plan (SEP) and Baseline Description Document (BDD).
- Develop cloud migration strategies as required. This will be particularly important as new applications are migrated.
- Develop, review, and report on Cloud Infrastructure related IMS and project plan sections. Report on progress on these sections once work commences.
- Identify and work to mitigate risks associated with the Cloud Infrastructure or Infrastructure Operational Processes.
- Assist with the creation of Cloud Infrastructure and Project artifacts (including Cloud Asset Identification) and make sure all changes conform to project change management processes.
- Assist Cyber with their processes leading to the IATT, ATO and cATO as required.
- Assist with the review and updating of cyber artifacts for strategies and SOPs and make sure all changes conform to Cyber change management processes.
- Make sure design conforms to requirements for Cyber Security (Crytography, Identity and Access Management, Segmentation and Compartmentalization, Zero Trust, Continuous Monitoring and Software Assurance).
- Work to identify and resolve any potential security issues.
- Assist with the development of continuous monitoring processes and alerting procedures.
- Run Cloud working group and cloud design sessions as required.
- Review Project Strategies, Plans and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as required.
- Provide software registration support as required.
- Inform National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped on Cloud advances and new products or services that would benefit their projects from a performance, reliability and cost perspective.
- Provide Agile methodology guidance as required. Help to develop SecDevOps processes to help developers and architects create code (where required) and design the system architecture with security in mind. Assist Project Management with anticipating any security and operational issues that the Agile and DevOps methodologies do not address.
- Work with the project teams to develop design and to re-factor code as required to make sure that it can operate on the selected Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery (CI / CD) pipeline.
- Adhere to, develop or revise a Cloud Strategy conforming to CIO direction for Cloud and Secure Cloud Computing Architecture (SCCA) guidance.
- Assist other project teams with onboarding documentation and other required ID creation processes as required.
- Assist the project manager with status reporting and other upstream reporting.
- Active clearance highly desired. Must be able to pass federal background check.
- 5+ years proven experience as a Cloud Engineer or similar role in cloud infrastructure management in federal or DoD environment
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
- Knowledge of AWS cloud hosting environments
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
- Proficiency in scripting languages like Python, Bash, or PowerShell
- Experience with containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes
- Strong understanding of infrastructure as code (IaC) and configuration management tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible, etc.)
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to troubleshooting
- Strong communication and collaboration abilities
