We Require

  • Three years of progressively responsible legal, court, justice system, or administrative support-related experience

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Post-secondary education may substitute for the minimum experience on a year-for-year basis

  • Experience in medical billing procedures

  • Bilingual skills in English and Spanish

Job Contributions

  • Works directly with crime victims to support them in their Victim Compensation Claim, while upholding a high standard of customer service and sensitivity during interactions

  • Clearly explains the Victim Compensation Program rules, legal statues, and process to victims and service providers

  • Reviews and summarizes police reports in detail for the Board regarding a claim

  • Acts as a liaison between the victim and the Victim Compensation Board

  • Communicates with victims regarding the status of compensation applications and any additional requirements

  • Demonstrate empathy when working with victims of violent crimes to assist needs of financial hardship

  • Demonstrate compassion and professionalism when conveying Board decisions to include denials and reductions to victims

  • Offers basic crisis support and refers emotionally distressed victims

  • Assesses practical needs of crime victims and provides appropriate resources and referrals

  • Communicates with other criminal justice agencies and stakeholders exchange information regarding the Victim Compensation Claim

  • Gathers, reviews, and organizes supporting materials such as bills, receipts, and completes verification documents for compensation claims

  • Coordinates with providers, employers, insurance companies, advocates, prosecutors, and law enforcement to obtain necessary documentation that meets the program rules and legal statutes

  • Reviews submitted materials for completeness and accuracy to ensure compliance with Victim Compensation Program rules and legal statutes

  • Tracks and monitors the progress of compensation claims for grant compliance and follows up as needed

  • Coordinates with prosecutors, victim advocates and staff to obtain restitution information to support the claim

  • Testify when seeking restitution to reimburse the Victim Compensation Program per program rules, legal statues and grant compliance

  • Develops and maintains professional relationships with colleagues, providers, Victim Compensation Boards members, community partners and the criminal court

  • Maintains and develops a list of Victim Compensation approve resources for certain eligible categories

  • Maintains confidential Victim Compensation case files

  • Enters and updates compensation-related case information in designated databases

  • Maintain oversight over expenses and expenditures for financial management and grant compliance

  • Maintain good customer service when communicating the appeal process

  • Ensures timely submission of reports and documentation related to compensation activities

  • Work in the presence of or with a trained canine that comforts victims

Working Conditions

  • Teleworking Hybrid schedule available based on business needs

  • High volume, fast-paced office environment

  • Requires long periods of sitting while completing paperwork and computer activities

  • Requires travel to and from job-related locations during the course of a scheduled workday, subject to County policies regarding the use of County vehicles and/or private vehicles used on County business

  • Ability to lift/push/pull/carry up to 20 pounds
