Ramboll invite you to apply for a Civil Engineering Apprenticeship in our Ground Engineering team, assisting the team in delivering Ground design services across a wide range of projects. You will be provided full support to achieve a Level 6 qualification (BEng Hons Degree in Civil Engineering), typically on a day release basis and create a solid foundation for a successful and satisfying career.

The duration of the academic course is 5 years. The cost of the Apprenticeship is paid by Ramboll through the Apprenticeship Levy.

Qualifications to be awarded

  • Level 6 Civil Engineering Degree Apprenticeship
  • BEng (Hons) Civil Engineering
  • Incorporated Engineer (IEng) following successfully passing the End Point Assessment

On completion of the Apprenticeship you will have satisfied the requirements for registration as an Incorporated Engineer by the Institution of Civil Engineers in accordance with the requirements of the Engineering Council as the registration body. Potential onward career progression within Civil Engineering could be to continue work as a Civil Engineer or study a Masters Degree and gain the necessary experience to apply to become a Chartered Engineer (CEng).

Ramboll are intending to deliver the Apprenticeship with Liverpool John Moores University. You would typically work for 4 days a week within your job delivery role and study would be 1 day a week at the University via a combination of lectures, laboratory work, tutorials, workshops, practical sessions, and online activities combined with your own research using the library and the web. Following your degree award, you will be required to complete an End Point Assessment where you will need to demonstrate that during the apprenticeship you have learnt the required knowledge, skills and behaviours.

As our new Civil Engineering Apprentice, you will be part of a fast growing, dynamic team in our Chester office. You will be working with an exciting team of experts, who respect each other and work towards a common goal by applying cutting edge technology in the design of ground and related structures. You will be provided with on-the-job training and mentoring from our team of experienced, industry-leading professionals. 

Your key tasks and responsibilities will be:

  • Contribute to the overall design and delivery of ground structures
  • Perform complex analysis using computer modelling; making, reading, and interpreting technical material
  • Develop digital tools and approaches to leverage these opportunities
  • Translate complex engineering concepts and solutions into presentations, reports, sketches, drawings and infographics that communicate their essence and demonstrate their value to our clients and key stakeholders
  • Learn to identify potential health & safety, design, sustainability and commercial risks on our projects and contribute towards mitigating them
  • Carry out on-site works to assess ground conditions of sites being considered for remediation or construction
  • Monitor the implementation of design throughout the entire project lifecycle, from initial concepts to construction and operation
  • Contribute to the development of company procedures by taking an active role in task groups,
  • Proactively pursue continuous professional development including working towards chartership with a recognised institution
  • You will be working alongside the rest of the Transport team, and teams of all disciplines nationally and internationally across the Ramboll Group to deliver our projects

  • Apply and promote policies relating to health and safety, quality and the Environment

  • Have 2/3 A levels from Grades C and above including Mathematics and Physical Science (or equivalent) achieving at least 112- 120 UCAS Points. Other routes are possible subject to confirmation with the University in accordance with their Entry Requirements
  • A keen interest in the Built Environment
  • Basic knowledge and interest in geological processes and their impact on the natural environment
  • Capable of working independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong technology skills.
  • CAD knowledge and or experience is desirable but not essential.
