The Chip Design Team works at the heart of this development. It provides a safe environment for the quantum processor – the qubit – as well as pathways to interact with qubit. We work in collaboration with other teams, providing them validation methods and data for the same for their experiments in improving qubit quality.
You're internship at C12 Quantum Electronics:
- Simulate and compare designs, explore trade-offs, and investigate the relationship between predicted and measured performance.
- Help cycling the dilution refrigerator based on the experiment requirements, and coordinate the measurement equipment as needed.
- Carry out measurements and log data.
- Process, analyze, and visualize experimental data to characterize component performance and inform further design work.
- Document code, simulation methods, experimental procedures, and results clearly to support reproducibility and knowledge sharing.
- Collaborate with engineers and researchers across teams, communicating findings and relating them to shared technical goals.
C12 Quantum Electronics is looking for an intern to join the Chip Design team and contribute across the development process, from design and simulation to experimental measurements and data analysis. Working closely with the team, you will investigate how on-chip component designs translate into measured performance and how these findings support the work of other teams.
The role includes performing experiment-specific measurements at millikelvin temperatures, with hands-on involvement in setting up the dilution refrigerator and measurement equipment, and analyzing the resulting data - including maintaining and improving the (python) code for data analysis and visualization. By connecting design work with experimental results, you will gain a practical understanding of how chip design contributes to a quantum compter’s broader development efforts while working collaboratively with engineers and researchers across teams.
Key responsibilities:
About you:
- You are completing or have recently completed a master’s degree in physics, engineering, or a related field. You are interested in quantum technologies and enjoy the process of conducting experiments from start to finish.
- You have a strong background in quantum physics and have taken courses on Quantum Electromagnetism. Exposure to Quantum Information is a strong plus.
- You have Python programming skills.
- You have an interest in experimental work, including setting up measurement equipment, and troubleshooting.
- You have a collaborative mindset, with the willingness to communicate your findings, ask questions, and work constructively with colleagues from different technical backgrounds.
- You are curious about quantum experimentation, and are willing to learn new methods and work in a start-up environment.
- Previous exposure to circuit or electromagnetic simulation, electronic measurements, quantum devices, or cryogenic systems would be appreciated.
- You speak and write English fluently.
- Two incredible office spaces in the heart of Paris (both next to the famous Panthéon!)
- Swile meal vouchers
- Vibrant office culture (team lunches, offsite events, Friday breakfasts..)
- Mental health support with moka.care
- You want to contribute to achieving landmark results in quantum computing, making a difference in the emerging quantum technologies
- You want to work within a 80+ people team with various backgrounds in nanofabrication, quantum electronics, and carbon nanotube science to create a revolutionary quantum computing processor
- You want to thrive in an exceptional scientific environment with several industrial and academic partners
- You share our values (excellence, scientific integrity, diversity, curiosity, and care) and want to help us define our product-focused culture and ambition to accelerate
Skills Required
- Currently completing or recently completed a master's degree in physics, engineering, or a related field
- Strong background in quantum physics

What We Do
C12 is building reliable quantum computers. The company is a spin-off from ENS launched in January 2020 by twin brothers Matthieu and Pierre Desjardins to supercharge the development of the lab’s promising new quantum technology. Quantum computing has the potential to change our lives. But frequent errors limit the technology’s viability. We are tackling the fundamental issue: the nature of the hardware itself. We are tapping into the simplest material–carbon–to drive a technological breakthrough in the field. Unlike other quantum computers, we use carbon nanotubes as the fundamental building block of our processor. By combining the power of an ultra-pure material with an easy-to-manufacture semiconductor device, we are building a scalable platform for quantum computing. Our executive co-founders bring a unique combination of scientific excellence and business skills to the company. Our team is made up of the world’s most accomplished experts in quantum electronics and carbon nanotube science. Our scientific advisors are renowned scientists and pioneers in spin qubits: Dr. Takis Kontos, Dr. Matthieu Delbecq and Dr. Jérémie Viennot. In June 2021, C12 secured a $10 million seed round with funding from 360 Capital, Bpifrance (Digital Venture Fund), Airbus Ventures, BNP Paribas Développement, and Octave Klaba (OVHcloud), and additional grants from Bpifrance and the Ile-de-France Region. We are leading quantum’s next material breakthrough, and we are just getting started. Silicon enabled the emergence of classical computing – it’s time for carbon to do the same for quantum !
