Job Summary

The Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) provides executive leadership for organizational strategy, business development, strategic partnerships, growth initiatives, and revenue diversification. The CSO works closely with the CEO and Executive Leadership Team to identify emerging opportunities, evaluate strategic alternatives, develop business cases, and coordinate implementation of approved initiatives.

The successful candidate will be mission-driven and relentlessly focused on Emmaus’ purpose through strategic action and measurable impact. As a visionary leader, the CSO is responsible for identifying opportunities beyond current operations, shaping long-term strategy, anticipating external trends and disruptions, and guiding the organization through complexity and change while remaining grounded in the mission and needs Emmaus clients.

In addition, a successful CSO will demonstrate an entrepreneurial mindset by launching new programs, business lines, partnerships, and revenue streams. ensure that Emmaus Homes be a maintains a disciplined approach to growth, diversification, and innovation while remaining aligned with mission, values, strategic plan, and long-term sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership and Execution

  • Lead development and execution of the organizational strategic plan
  • Facilitate annual and multi-year strategic planning processes
  • Develop strategic recommendations for executive and board consideration
  • Monitor industry, funding, legislative, workforce, and market trends
  • Lead scenario planning and strategic risk assessments
  • Establish enterprise project and initiative review processes
  • Coordinate cross-functional implementation of strategic priorities
  • Facilitate quarterly strategic reviews with Executive Leadership Team (ELT)

Business Development & Growth

  • Develop and manage the organization's growth initiatives
  • Identify and evaluate new business opportunities
  • Lead business case development for strategic investments
  • Develop diversification strategies that reduce reliance on state funding
  • Explore expansion opportunities including:
    • Housing initiatives
    • Senior services
    • Property management services
    • Adaptive Solutions
    • Learning Lab
    • Strategic acquisitions and partnerships

Strategic Alliances

  • Build and continually nurture relationships with strategic partners, funders, community organizations, and industry leaders
  • Negotiate and coordinate partnership opportunities
  • Develop collaboration opportunities that advance Emmaus’ mission and sustainability
  • Represent Emmaus in strategic external forums and initiatives

Data Driven Performance and Decision Support

  • Develop strategic dashboards and performance reporting
  • Establish metrics for strategic initiatives
  • Provide executive decision support and analysis
  • Monitor business line performance and recommend adjustments as needed

Board and Executive Team Engagement

  • Prepare strategic analyses and recommendations
  • Present strategic opportunities and progress updates
  • Assist with organizational level priority setting
Qualifications

Standard - Demands of the Job

  • Operate standard office equipment including but not limited to a laptop, cell phone, fax machine, printer, and copier.
  • Appropriately and effectively assist individuals during crisis or emergency situations. 
  • Perform detailed data collection, recording and reporting in handwriting and typing. 
  • Complete required annual trainings.
  • May be exposed to extreme weather conditions.

 

Job Requirements/Desired Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 5+ years of progressively responsible leadership experience required
  • Executive or senior leadership experience required
  • Experience leading company-wide strategic initiatives required
  • Business development, growth strategy, mergers/acquisitions, or partnership experience required
  • Experience managing complex cross-functional projects required
  • Strong financial and analytical acumen required
  • Nonprofit healthcare, human services, senior services, housing, or disability services preferred
  • Experience evaluating new business opportunities preferred
  • An established network of decision makers in philanthropy, advocacy, government funding, or public-private partnerships preferred
  • Experience scaling organizations or new ventures preferred

Skills Required

  • Bachelor's degree
