About Amperity—Why This, Why Now
Most customer data is a lie by omission.
Every consumer brand wants to know its customers. Unfortunately, almost none actually do. Data is scattered across a dozen systems, half of it contradicts the other half, and "insights" teams are forced to act on incomplete guesses. We started Amperity ten years ago because that gap—between what a brand believes about its customers and what is true—is the most expensive problem in the industry, and nobody had solved it.
With a lot of hard work and a little bit of luck, we did. Our patented identity resolution takes billions of messy, conflicting records and resolves them into an accurate picture of a real human being—in hours, not months. That’s not a feature; it’s the foundation everything else stands on. It’s why more than 400 brands—like Alaska Airlines, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, DICK’S Sporting Goods, Virgin Atlantic, and Brooks Running—trust us with the one thing they can’t afford to get wrong, and why IDC named us a Leader in the category in 2026.
Now we’re doing something harder. We’re rebuilding Amperity as an AI-first company—not bolting a chatbot onto old software, but putting agents at the center of how customer data actually gets used. We shipped the industry’s first identity resolution agent, then the first enterprise Customer Data Agent that turns a plain-language question into a live segment without waiting on an engineering queue. The bet underneath all of it is simple, and we think it’s correct: The potential of AI will not be realized for a brand until it’s grounded and activated against a true, unified view of the customer. The market at-large is focused on intelligence, and we are focused on being the ones who can make it trustworthy.
So here’s the honest pitch. If you want a tour of a category that’s already been figured out, this isn’t it. If you want to help decide what the next version of an entire industry looks like—alongside people who are remarkably exceptional at what they do, solving a problem that requires deep, sustained focus—this is one of the few places that work exists. Our goal is to build a highly impactful, generational business.
We measure our success by one standard: whether what we build moves the business. Return on cognition, not return on hype. If that’s how you want to be measured, we would love to speak with you.
The RoleThe Chief of Staff is a high-leverage position sitting at the center of the Office of the New York-based Co-CEO. In this role, you will serve as a strategic thought partner and force multiplier, taking the Co-CEO's highest-priority intentions and driving them to successful outcomes. You will be in the room for the most critical conversations—including board, customer, investor, and leadership meetings—and will be accountable for executing the strategy after those meetings conclude.
This position works primarily with Co-Founder & Co-CEO Kabir Shahani (~70%), while providing dedicated support to Co-CEO Derek Slager and President Amy Pelly on shared strategic priorities (~30%). Crucially, your focus is to amplify the Co-CEO's agenda rather than manage day-to-day operations, which remain with our business operating leaders. This is an in-person role based out of New York, NY, with travel as needed (primarily to Seattle).
Interesting Problems- Architecting an AI-Native Operating Model: Design and implement the AI-native workflows for the Co-CEO's office. You will leverage agents and modern AI tooling to maximize operational throughput, establishing automated and model-driven approaches to execute complex tasks efficiently.
- Executing Special Projects & Strategy: Scope and drive the Co-CEO's highest-priority initiatives from a blank page to a concrete decision and final result. This includes building robust analyses, delivering market and competitive insights, and leading sensitive corporate workstreams.
- Bridging Decisions and Delivery: Translate executive decisions into clear ownership structures, tracking timelines, and operational follow-through. You will ensure priority initiatives are delivered seamlessly without overstepping into the day-to-day management of operating leaders.
- Amplifying GTM Leverage & Executive Programs: Partner with the Co-CEO to cultivate high-value customer and partner relationships. You will help design and execute executive customer programs—such as briefings, leadership forums, and dinners—to advance strategic partnerships.
- Strategic Communications: Draft, refine, and shape high-impact internal and external communications in the Co-CEO’s voice, including briefings, talking points, and narrative structures, while representing the office credibly in key forums.
- AI-Fluent Operator: You utilize AI tools aggressively in your daily workflows, building automated processes and leveraging AI agents to scale your impact.
- High Trajectory & Strong Judgment: You possess exceptional intellectual curiosity and raw horsepower. We prioritize your upward trajectory and problem-solving capability over specific pedigrees or years in a seat.
- Analytical Rigor & Analytical Training: You bring foundational experience from environments such as strategy consulting, investment banking, high-velocity operating or GTM roles, or a founder's office, alongside a proven track record of owning final outcomes.
- Highly Organized & Adaptable: You excel at managing dozens of complex threads simultaneously without dropping details, naturally bringing order and structure to ambiguous environments.
- Executive Presence & Credibility: You communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders—ranging from board members and Fortune 500 CMOs to bankers and engineers—earning trust as a reliable proxy for executive leadership.
- Financial Literacy: You are comfortable evaluating forecasts, analyzing financial models, reviewing board decks, and understanding cap table dynamics.
- Discretion & Focus on Outcomes: You demonstrate high discretion and excellent judgment while handling highly sensitive company matters, remaining entirely focused on achieving meaningful team and business results.
- Must be comfortable traveling to Customer sites and to Seattle office (25%)
