The Role

About this role

We are seeking a strategic, execution-oriented, partner for the role of Chief of Staff to the Co-Head of USWA and BLK Senior Sponsor for Retirement.

A Chief of Staff is expected to be many things: a strategist, a trusted operator & advisor, a diplomat, and a force multiplier to help make their leader more effective and the organization more aligned. Their north star is: “What can I take off the leader’s plate, or help them do better?” The ideal candidate for this role is someone with high emotional intelligence, broad business acumen, and a bias for action.

This role is focused on supporting the Co-Head of USWA and BLK Senior Sponsor for Retirement, the USWA ExCo, and the USWA business more broadly by driving cross-business engagement, meeting organization (pre-meeting preparation & post-meeting follow-ups), cross-business communication, and productivity. This role will also partner with the Co-Head of USWA and BLK Senior Sponsor for Retirement, the USWA ExCo, and our Retirement Business leaders across the firm to drive strategic initiatives, lead special projects, and connect leaders across functions and to broader BlackRock. This position reports to the Head of Commercial Strategy & Planning for USWA, Mike Golisano.

Responsibilities:

  • Effectively drive preps for internal & external meetings and speaking engagements; including presentations, briefings, and talking points.
  • Working with leaders across the business, help prepare the Co-Head of USWA for internal and external meetings, ensuring agendas are clear, and high-quality materials are available for pre-read in a timely fashion.
  • Support ACB leadership with project management, specifically ensuring projects are progressing in a timely fashion and facilitating check-ins with senior stakeholders.
  • Build C-suite level presentations and memos for firm and department stakeholders (i.e., BlackRock GEC, Board of Directors, USWA ExCo, USWA MD Community).
  • Plan and coordinate leadership meetings, offsites, and town halls.
  • Handle questions on behalf of the Co-Head of USWA and coordinate response and action plans to resolve inquiries.
  • Stay connected with the broader ACB business (ACB, AIB, & LatAm) through Chief of Staff counterparts in those businesses.
  • Maintain a pulse of the business to keep the Co-Head of USWA and the ExCo informed of everything going on in the business by understanding what is working well, and what can be improved and then develop and execute plans to help solve issues or capture new opportunities.
  • Be a thought partner to the Co-Head of USWA and the COO & strategy team while being a source of candid feedback. Turn ideas into actions and manage priorities effectively.
  • Develop a USWA narrative and messaging, in partnership with corporate communications and marketing, to be shared with broader USWA population to drive a sense of connectivity, community, belonging and ensuring key messages are cascaded throughout the business.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Project Management: Effective project manager; highly organized and disciplined; demonstrates high level of attention to detail.
  • Problem Solving: Operates with initiative; brings a solutions-oriented mindset to situations; addresses problems in a thoughtful and empathetic manner.
  • Communication: Effective and persuasive written and verbal communicator; able to tell stories with words as well as visuals (writing and deck making skills critical).
  • Collaboration: Superior interpersonal skills; partners effectively across function to ensure operational responsiveness to challenges and alignment with business imperatives.
  • Leadership: Able to rally energy across the business, drive initiatives forward in complex and ambiguous environments to deliver results, influence without direct authority, balance between competing priorities with flexibility and creativity, and communicate clearly and effectively across multiple levels
  • BLK Knowledge: Effective navigation of BlackRock teams, cultures, and various layers of seniority to be able to find a solution or complete an objective.
  • Flexibility: Comfortability stretching both up and down to get the job done, with a mentality that no task is too big or too small. This is an “always on” job.
  • Commitment: Be ready and willing to read and react to the needs of the business or Co-Head of USWA with short notice.

Experience/Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of relevant investment industry experience, preferably with emphasis in relationship management, business strategy, or business management.
  • At least 2 years of BLK experience with a preference for more.
  • Results driven and high performing Vice President (or senior Associate) with a consistent record of success and achievement driving goals.
  • High degree of professional discretion and integrity.

What We Do

As the world’s largest asset manager, BlackRock partners with investors around the globe to help them (and those on whose behalf they invest) plan for life’s most important goals – like retirement, home ownership and their children’s education. Our clients range from governments, foundations and other large institutions to those investing on behalf of individuals, including firefighters, nurses, teachers and factory workers. BlackRock was founded with the idea of creating a better asset management firm — one that was purpose-driven, focused on clients and risk management, and propelled by data and technology. Our breakthrough Aladdin® platform is BlackRock’s technological backbone, helping investors see and manage their whole portfolios in one place – from constructing investments to monitoring risk and executing trades. Used by hundreds of external institutions around the world, Aladdin combines powerful analytics and a common language to help investment teams make faster, more informed decisions across public and private markets. It’s a key part of our business and one of the reasons we’re trusted to manage more assets than any other investment manager today. At BlackRock, we challenge conventions and raise the bar for what’s possible. We harness technology to unlock new solutions, simplify complexity, and deliver investment strategies that meet people where they are. Whether it’s retirement planning, wealth building or navigating market shifts, we’re here to help clients invest more easily, more affordably and with more choice as we chart a path toward financial well-being together.
