Executive Leadership Opportunity | Community Health Action of Staten Island

About CHASI

Community Health Action of Staten Island (CHASI) is a leading provider of social services and care management dedicated to reducing the health impacts of poverty and limited access to care. Through outreach, education, prevention, care management, and direct support, CHASI helps Staten Islanders address chronic health conditions, food insecurity, domestic violence, substance use, behavioral health needs, and other barriers to well-being.

The Opportunity

CHASI is expanding its executive leadership structure and seeking a strategic, collaborative, and mission-driven Chief Program Officer. This vacancy reflects an exciting period of organizational growth: our former CPO has moved into the Chief Operating Officer role, creating an opportunity for a new leader to guide program strategy, quality, and impact while working closely with an experienced executive team.

The CPO will lead the planning, implementation, quality assurance, and continuous improvement of CHASI’s service portfolio. The successful candidate will supervise senior program leaders, strengthen performance and accountability, ensure compliance with government and foundation requirements, and help position programs for sustainable growth. This is an opportunity to join an organization with deep community roots, committed staff, and a clear focus on health equity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead CHASI’s programs, ensuring quality, strong outcomes, and alignment with agency strategy.
  • Supervise and coach program leaders and guide annual planning, performance, and sustainability.
  • Use data to improve services, strengthen accountability, and communicate impact.
  • Partner across teams to meet contract, reporting, budget, and funding requirements.
  • Represent CHASI with the Board, funders, government agencies, and community partners.
Leadership Profile

The ideal candidate is a strategic, collaborative, and accessible leader who will:

  • Lead with sound judgment, accountability, curiosity, and respect.
  • Build trust and use a trauma-informed, coaching-focused approach.
  • Turn complex requirements and data into clear, practical action.
  • Advance health equity and CHASI’s mission, vision, and values.

Requirements

  • Master’s or doctoral degree in social work, public health, public administration, or a related field.
  • At least 10 years of progressive senior management experience in nonprofit human services.
  • Proven leadership in program strategy, quality improvement, staff supervision, contracts, and compliance.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office and data systems.
