Ellasot Consulting is recruiting on behalf of a reputable company seeking a competent and detail-oriented Chief Operating Officer to be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the oil and gas company, ensuring safe, efficient, and profitable execution of upstream, midstream, and/or downstream activities.lead business development and technical sales activities for our drilling, production, and completion chemical solutions within the Oil & Gas sector. 

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) Under the direct supervision of the MD/CEO, would be responsible for providing leadership and direction in managing the operational functions of the Organization, ensuring the achievement of its long-term goal of producing 50,000 barrels of crude oil per day by developing and implementing operational strategies, policies, and procedures to achieve these long-term goals and objectives. Collaborates with other senior executives, department heads, and stakeholders in the organization to optimize operational performance, enhance business efficiency, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

    Planning:

    · Develop a strategic direction for the companies operations’ team, crafting a forward-thinking production optimization plan that aligns with the company's overall vision and objectives, ensuring long-term stability and growth.

    · Oversee the formulation of annual operational plans: including production targets, focusing on an incremental gain plan with minimum resource allocation, maintenance schedules: preventive and predictive, and effective resource allocation.

    · Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for all the technical team to measure operational performance and gain valuable insight, enabling informed data-driven decisions that drive improvement.

    · Plan and maintain the equipment in Company’s field locations, adopting both preventive and predictive maintenance strategies, ensuring all the equipment is functional and operating optimally.

    Operations:

    · Manage the day-to-day operations of the company, including production and maintenance, exploration, and drilling operations.

    · Oversee the maintenance and integrity of company’s facilities, equipment, and infrastructure.

    · Ensure that Company’s operations are conducted in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.

    · Effectively chair the operations meetings on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and provide constructive reports/feedback to the MD/CEO

    · Evaluate existing processes, systems, and workflows in operations and identify opportunities for improvement and optimization.

    · Lead and mentor the technical teams, providing guidance, direction, and support to ensure optimal performance.

    · Develop and manage operational budgets, ensuring that the Unit Operating Cost (UOC) is controlled and aligned with company’s business objectives and approved budget.

    · Drive a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and operational excellence throughout the organization.

    · Resolve operations and maintenance issues, challenges, and conflicts proactively to minimize operational downtime.

    · Lead organizational change initiatives, transformation projects, and business process reengineering efforts.

      Operational Risk Management:

      · Identify, assess, and mitigate operational risks, including technical challenges, community unrest, and environmental hazards.

      · Implement risk mitigation strategies, including regular maintenance and quality control, to mitigate technical challenges. Establish community engagement, stakeholder analysis, and social responsibility initiatives to address community unrest. Install effective surveillance systems using the community surveillance initiative, Joint Task Force, etc., to prevent and respond to pipeline vandalism. Conduct environmental impact assessments, develop spill response plans, and implement proper waste management practices to mitigate environmental hazards, ensuring the company complies with all regulatory requirements.

      Stakeholder Management:

      · Build and sustain excellent relationships with stakeholders, including JV partners, government agencies, like NUPRC, NUIMS, FIRS, etc. and non-operator stakeholders, including community relations. Strong community relations are a core value of Producing Limited.

      • Drive a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and operational excellence throughout the organization.
        Financial Management
      • Develop and manage operational budgets.
      • Monitor operational expenditures and identify cost-saving opportunities.
      • Improve operational profitability through efficiency and resource optimization.
      • Support capital investment planning and project execution.
      Regulatory Compliance
      • Ensure compliance with government regulations, environmental laws, and industry standards.
      • Maintain relationships with regulatory agencies and industry stakeholders.
      • Ensure adherence to operational policies, permits, and reporting requirements.
      Project Management
      • Oversee execution of major capital projects and operational improvements.
      • Ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and according to specifications.
      • Coordinate cross-functional teams for project delivery.
      Leadership and People Management
      • Lead and mentor senior operational managers and department heads.
      • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and high performance.
      • Develop succession plans and leadership development initiatives.
      • Support workforce planning and talent management.
      Stakeholder Management
      • Maintain strong relationships with customers, partners, contractors, suppliers, and government agencies.
      • Represent the company during operational reviews and industry engagements.
      • Support investor and board reporting on operational performance.


      RequirementsQualifications
      • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
      • Master's degree (MBA or Engineering Management) is preferred.
      • Professional certifications are an advantage.
      • Experience
        • 15–20 years of progressive experience in the oil and gas industry.
        • At least 8–10 years in senior operational leadership roles.
        • Proven experience managing large-scale oil and gas operations.
        • Strong knowledge of upstream, midstream, or downstream operations
        • Extensive experience in managing complex technical issues
        • Strong understanding of the global oil and gas market and regulatory environment
        • Established network of industry contacts
        • Experience in strategic planning and business development, including experience identifying and pursuing new business opportunities
        • PE, PMP, COREN, NAPE, NSE.
