Chief Financial Officer

Cañon City, Colorado  ·  Full-time, on-site  ·  Reports to the Founder

At Unbridled, people matter. While we embrace AI as a tool to help us work smarter, we don’t use it to screen resumes or to conduct interviews on our behalf. Applications are reviewed by a real person on our team, and every interview is conducted by a real person(s). We believe every candidate deserves an authentic, respectful hiring experience.
The role in one sentence:
Come build the financial home for a family of companies that are trying to do good by doing well. You will live in Cañon City, care for the numbers the way we care for people, and help every brand outside our brands feel supported, empowered, and ready for what is next.

About Unbridled Companies:
Unbridled Companies is the hub. Our brands stay close to their craft, and they plug into shared finance, people, and infrastructure so they do not have to build those functions from scratch. Our mission is Doing Good by Doing Well. We practice a 20/20/60 model: 20 percent to philanthropy through UnbridledACTS, 20 percent reinvested for the future, and 60 percent to the people and partners who do the work.
This role sits at the hub, not inside a single brand. You will serve our hospitality companies, our real estate holdings, our newer operating businesses, our wealth company, and UnbridledACTS when they need you. You will also stand up finance for brands we have not launched yet. Our live events companies keep their own finance team. You do not need that industry background. What you do need is the judgment of a seasoned financial leader who can learn a new business quickly and treat each one with respect.
This is a hands-on CFO seat. You will have support, including an Assistant Controller on the hospitality side, and you will still be close to the work: the close, the cash, the conversations with operators, and the relationship with our founder. We are looking for someone who is both expert and kind. Someone who can hold a high standard without making people feel small.

About Cañon City:
This role is based in Cañon City, at 425 Main Street. We work in person because the businesses are here, the people are here, and the best decisions happen when we can sit down together. If Cañon City can become home for you, we would love to talk.
Cañon City is one of Colorado's better-kept secrets, at the gateway to the Royal Gorge. The Arkansas River runs through town. There is gold-medal fly fishing, climbing at Shelf Road, historic Main Street, and a community that takes care of its own. Hotel St. Cloud is the four-star address on the block. It is a real mountain-town life paired with a real operating job.

Position Summary:
You will lead finance for a multi-entity group of operating companies. That means clean books, reliable reporting, thoughtful cash management, and a benefits program worthy of the people who work here. You will partner with brand leaders who know their craft better than they know a balance sheet. Your job is to make the numbers understandable, timely, and useful, and to protect the health of the whole while each brand does its work.
What you will lead

Financial Operations:
  • Own accounting and reporting across multiple legal entities, bank accounts, and brands.
  • Maintain a consistent chart of accounts and accurate intercompany activity.
  • Lead a dependable month-end close and deliver clear monthly financial packages.
  • Manage cash: short-term forecasts, payables, receivables, and timing of major obligations.
  • Build and maintain financial models, including cash forecasts and brand-level profit and loss statements.
  • Review weekly operating results with brand leaders (labor, cost of sales, and other key drivers).
  • Support project and property accounting, including budgets, vendor activity, and lender or banking requirements.
  • Oversee payroll review and backup so compensation, time, and related taxes are accurate.
  • Manage credit cards, banking relationships, insurance payments, and other recurring financial commitments.
  • Coordinate with outside CPAs so tax filings are complete, timely, and based on clean records.
  • Help open the books for new brands: entity setup, banking, accounting system, payroll path, and reporting.
  • Improve systems and processes as the group grows. Experience with common small-business and hospitality tools is helpful; the ability to learn and implement them is required.
Benefits and People Support:
By December 31, 2026, you will lead the redesign and launch of the Unbridled Companies benefits package. That work then becomes the standard other brands can join, so people across the group are cared for more consistently.
  • Document current benefits across the companies you support.
  • Partner with counsel and advisors on multi-company compliance, including health coverage and retirement plan rules that apply when businesses share common ownership.
  • Design a competitive package: medical, dental, vision, life, disability, and retirement.
  • Lead vendor review and bring a clear recommendation to the founder.
  • Implement the new program, including enrollment, employee communication, payroll deductions, and new-hire offers.
  • Own the annual renewal and day-to-day benefits questions after launch.
How we work together:
  • Set a simple operating rhythm: close dates, reporting dates, and benefits milestones.
  • Work side by side with the Assistant Controller so coverage is strong and knowledge is shared.
  • Meet regularly with the founder. Come with the issue, the options, and your recommendation.
  • Be a steady partner to general managers and brand leads. Teach when it helps. Listen first.
What we are looking for:
  • Ten or more years in accounting and finance, including leadership in a multi-entity or multi-location environment. Hospitality, real estate, construction, retail, or another operating-company background are all welcome.
  • A true expert in Excel and technology as a whole. You build models other people can trust, and you can explain them in plain language.
  • Comfort being both strategist and practitioner. You can set the system and you can close the books.
  • Experience designing or implementing employee benefits, or a closely related project you can speak to with honesty.
  • A CPA is welcome. Curiosity, care, and follow-through matter more than any single credential.
  • The ability to move quickly without sacrificing accuracy.
  • Ease with people. You can sit with a general manager, a banker, and our founder in the same day and leave each conversation clearer than you found it.
  • Willingness to live and work in Cañon City. This is an on-site role, with travel to other properties as needed.
  • A natural fit with our values: character, change, credibility, and community.
What makes this role unique:
You are not joining a single restaurant or a single property. You are helping build the financial heart of a growing ecosystem, so each brand can stay human-sized and still be well run. The live events companies are not on your desk. Everything else is an invitation to learn, to serve, and to raise the standard of care for the people who work here.
The title is Chief Financial Officer because you own the system, the story the numbers tell, and the 2026 benefits outcome. The work includes the close. We want a leader who is close enough to the details to be trusted, and generous enough to make other people better at their jobs.
The first year:
  • Early months: a clear view of cash and obligations across the companies you support.
  • By the first quarter: a close calendar the brands can count on, and intercompany records that tie.
  • By midyear: a complete picture of current benefits, advisor input in hand, and a recommendation for the new package.
  • By December 31, 2026: the Unbridled Companies benefits package selected, communicated, and ready for the following year.
  • Throughout: monthly reporting the founder and brand leaders actually use, and a simple path for each new brand we launch.
Compensation:
Our salary range is $110,000 - $175,000. Salary is negotiable and will match the person. For the right partner, we will talk about equity or profit-share. Benefits today include health, dental, vision, and company-paid life, short-term, and long-term disability. Part of this role is making that package stronger & more flexible, on purpose, by year-end.

How to apply
Submit your application and include a cover letter that tells us why this seat, and this town, feel like a fit. We would love to hear about a multi-company close you have led, a financial model you are proud of, and any time you have helped make a benefits or people program better. A redacted sample or close checklist is welcome, never required.
There is no application deadline for this job posting.
