What this job involves: 

The Chief Engineer provides operational management and daily leadership of the engineering team to safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively operate building machinery and systems. This role focuses on achieving 100% uptime while protecting and improving client asset value through reliability-based maintenance programs. You'll implement maintenance best practices, manage equipment inspection programs, and ensure building engineering systems perform their intended functions while maintaining the highest level of professionalism and meeting client needs. This position directly contributes to JLL's operational excellence by continuously evaluating maintenance, operations and reliability methods to enhance effectiveness and maximize performance. The role requires readiness to provide onsite support during emergencies or extreme weather events, responding to urgent situations outside normal working hours to maintain building operations and tenant safety.

What your day-to-day will look like:

  • Oversee maintenance and continuous operation of all building systems including fire/life safety, mechanical (HVAC, plumbing, controls), electrical (lighting, UPS, PDU, generators, primary switchgear), and critical environments

  • Supervise activities of contractors working within the building as representatives of the building or tenant operations

  • Identify facility maintenance objectives and incorporate them into documented plans including preventive, predictive and reactive maintenance procedures

  • Identify safety hazards and implement remediation to ensure staff and occupants work in safe environments while administering safety training programs

  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory laws and guidelines related to building infrastructure operation and alert management of building discrepancies

  • Supervise and manage engineers and maintenance staff including hiring, training, and personal development responsibilities

  • Maintain all infrastructure and compliance documentation including up-to-date building drawings and regulatory compliance documentation required by Federal, State or Local law

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years facility related work experience including customer service, leadership and supervisory experience

  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, HVAC, fire safety, and backup power systems in critical applications

  • Physical ability to use ladders up to 30 ft, work from heights, climb stairs and navigate rooftops to access equipment

  • Working knowledge of computer applications including Microsoft Office and CMMS systems

  • Excellent communication skills in English, both oral and written

  • Ability to respond to urgent situations outside normal working hours including severe weather and equipment failures

  • Understanding of CFWA (Critical Facility Work Authorization) processes for critical infrastructure work

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience managing major electrical shutdowns strongly desired

  • Background in critical facility environments or data centers

  • Professional certifications in facility management, electrical, or HVAC systems

  • Experience with regulatory compliance documentation and procedures

  • Training and development experience for technical staff

  • Knowledge of reliability-based maintenance programs and best practices

  • Familiarity with emergency response protocols and procedures
