STV is seeking a Chief Engineer to provide technical leadership and quality oversight for transportation projects across the state of Florida. This position is based in Lake Mary and will play a critical role in supporting roadway, bridge, traffic, and multimodal projects throughout the region.
This hire is a proactive backfill for a senior technical leader nearing retirement. The Chief Engineer will serve as the cornerstone of technical excellence, ensuring continuity, consistency, and high-quality deliverables across Florida transportation projects while mentoring the next generation of engineers. This role is essential to maintaining STV’s reputation for quality, reliability, and technical rigor.
What You’ll Do- Provide technical leadership and oversight for all Florida transportation projects, ensuring compliance with FDOT standards, codes, and accepted engineering practices
- Lead quality control and quality assurance efforts across plans, calculations, specifications, and technical deliverables
- Serve as the senior technical authority supporting roadway, bridge, traffic, structural, and geotechnical disciplines
- Review and approve complex engineering designs, reports, and construction documents
- Establish and uphold consistent technical standards, processes, and best practices across the Florida practice
- Mentor and develop engineers at all levels, strengthening technical depth and succession planning
- Advise project managers and leadership on complex technical issues, risk mitigation, and innovative engineering solutions
- Support planning, organization, and execution of engineering activities for transportation infrastructure projects
- Exercise independent judgment on significant and complex technical matters requiring advanced analysis and evaluation
- Collaborate across disciplines and offices to align technical execution with STV’s broader objectives
- Licensed Professional Engineer with a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline
- Minimum of 19 years of progressive engineering experience with significant transportation project exposure
- Broad technical expertise across roadway, bridge, traffic, structural, and or geotechnical engineering
- Demonstrated experience leading quality control and quality assurance programs
- Proven ability to mentor engineers and elevate technical performance across teams
- Strong knowledge of FDOT standards, procedures, and project delivery requirements
- Ability to independently evaluate complex engineering challenges and develop sound technical solutions
- Experience supervising technical staff and guiding multidisciplinary teams
- Strong communication skills with the ability to influence project teams and leadership
Compensation Range:
