About the Role
Cantio Hotel is seeking an experienced Chief Engineer to lead all aspects of hotel maintenance, safety, and building operations. This key leadership position is responsible for ensuring the property, equipment, and systems operate efficiently while delivering an exceptional guest experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily maintenance operations for guest rooms, public spaces, grounds, and back-of-house areas.
- Manage preventive maintenance programs and capital improvement projects.
- Maintain and troubleshoot HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire/life safety, pool, refrigeration, and mechanical systems.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, fire safety, environmental, and local building regulations.
- Lead, train, schedule, and develop the maintenance team.
- Manage departmental budgets, inventory, vendor relationships, and contractor performance.
- Respond to maintenance emergencies and ensure prompt resolution of guest service issues.
- Support energy management and asset preservation initiatives.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of progressive maintenance or engineering experience, preferably in hospitality.
- Previous supervisory or management experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and life-safety systems.
- Hotel maintenance experience strongly preferred.
- EPA Refrigerant Certification, CPR/First Aid certifications are a plus.
- Valid driver's license required.

What We Do
The Cantio Hotel is a forthcoming boutique hotel on Ball State University’s campus in Muncie, Indiana. Planned as a 97-room property, it will connect to the university’s new Performing Arts Center and offer multiple dining venues, including a rooftop restaurant and lounge, a café, and a ground-floor restaurant and bar. The hotel will also provide meeting, private-dining, fitness, and retail amenities.
