Summary 

The Category Specialist is responsible for managing assigned product categories, including pricing, promotion, and overall category performance, while representing TAMCO’s core values. This role analyzes industry and consumer trends, oversees demand forecasting to support inventory sustainability, and builds strong vendor relationships to improve pricing, quality, and service. The Category Specialist partners cross functionally to support sales, marketing, and operational objectives while driving profitable growth.

 

Essential Job Functions 

  • Manage assigned product categories including pricing, promotion, and overall performance.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for assigned categories to support technical inquiries from customers and internal teams.
  • Maintain industry and compliance knowledge related to assigned categories including QC, UL, NEC, and DLC requirements.
  • Act as the primary information pipeline for promotions, new product launches, and category updates.
  • Maintain master crossover sheets and manage vendor relationships for assigned categories.
  • Oversee inventory forecasting, maintain category KPIs, and manage new product performance metrics.
  • Conduct pricing analysis, cost analysis, margin review, and industry and market research.\
  • Develop and deliver product training for sales teams and internal departments.
  • Monitor market share and competitive analysis to measure category performance and success.
  • Evaluate FIFO and product life cycle data to support promotions and flash sales initiatives.
  • Manage SDR and buy back tracking where applicable.
  • Develop and promote unique selling points for assigned product categories.
  • Complete annual SWOT analysis for assigned categories.
  • Review and approve or deny debits for assigned product lines.
Qualifications

Education/Experience 

  • Previous experience in category management or related field preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of category management, marketing, and sales principles.
  • Experience analyzing data to support product, pricing, and category decisions.
  • Understanding of market trends and consumer insights.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
