Job Summary:

The Capital Markets Senior Manager / Directors is responsible for managing the team, inclusive of managers and team leads, that books and services of all participation and syndicated loans with varying levels of complexity in a high-volume environment. Works with senior leadership to develop, implement, and manage the day-to-day functions of Wholesale Loan Operations. Through collaboration with Wholesale Bankers, this position determines the proper procedures, account maintenance, monitoring, and coordination of account activity with finance, accounting, loan review and senior management for the reporting of specialized loans. Administrative functions include company and bank documentation, banking policies and documentation, system data administration, and records retention.


Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works closely with Wholesale Bankers to ensure that loans are processed, closed, and booked, without errors or exceptions. Is a representative on internal and/or market calls with the bankers when necessary. Leads direct communication with borrowers, participant banks, LC Issuers, and other external stakeholders
  • Manages the operations for the division, directs and facilitates the distribution of administrative and operational responsibilities amongst a team of specialized Loan Operations specialists to ensure adherence to established procedures.
  • Provide expertise on the interpretation of complex loan documents and the associated system setup to support, including the knowledge of Bank Systems to manage the Syndicated Lending Business (nCino, AFSVision. Clearpar, Syntradk, Debtex)
  • Develops, documents and distributes Wholesale Banking Specialized Lending policy.
  • Reviews loan documentation to ensure it is properly aligned with authorizations, funding calculations, amendments/waivers, etc., coordinates with related parties at agent's bank, processes transactions and post-closing packages, and resolves any operations issues with agent bank. Downloads or extracts reports for daily, monthly, quarterly, annual and ad hoc reporting.
  • Ensures daily funding and payment activity to account for all daily cash transactions are completed timely and accurate by the team. Reconciles control reports and engages with leadership daily on Key Risk Indicators
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and operate in a high-pressure environment. Extremely detail oriented with a proven track record of accuracy
  • Develop, continually enhance and monitor an appropriate staffing model for each distinctive area to ensure staffing levels are adequate in number and skills.
  • Identify training needs and work with appropriate parties to develop, deliver and measure effectiveness
  • Collaborates with internal stakeholders on processes and procedures.
  • Assesses operational workflow for efficiency and cost effectiveness; develops and implements process improvements.
  • Monitors the daily loan processes, productivity, volumes, and service level agreements; identifies, reviews, and resolves all operational deficiencies. Identifies risk with past due principal, interest, and fees and escalates to management and across relevant business channels
  • Serves as the subject matter expert on compliance and regulatory matters and as liaison with regulatory agencies, internal and external examiners/auditors and other authorities on compliance-related issues. Assists the business, management and team members in understanding and addressing all applicable laws and regulations; monitors Wholesale Banking functions for compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley documentation.
  • Participates in maintenance of information and internal contact necessary for all internal and external examinations of the loan portfolios, ensuring compliance with internal and external regulatory requirements.
  • If the incumbent has been identified as a Risk liaison by Synovus Risk, incumbent will be Risk Liaison between the business unit (BU) leader(s) and the functional risk areas, responsible for communicating and promoting the understanding of risk management and compliance requirements within the BU, informing the business line executive of material changes in risk or control breakdown deficiencies, and communicating self-testing results, breach of KRI's and loss/near miss incidents to the appropriate risk function in a timely manner. Participates in BU risk assessment activities and verifies that ongoing risk triggers and policy exceptions are tracked and reported appropriately. Monitors the business unit's resolution of internal and external issues and exam findings.
  • Provides leadership, direction and growth opportunities to members of the department, performing those responsibilities in accordance with the Company's policies and applicable laws. Interviews, hires plans, assigns and directs work. Appraises team member performance and works closely with senior management and Human Resources to resolve more complex team member-related issues.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Preferred Qualifications

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Minimum Experience:

  • Ten (10) years of comprehensive Corporate Banking experience, with a minimum of one (3) years as a manager in the specialty lending area of Corporate Banking

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Advanced knowledge of banking, commercial banking, corporate banking, loan syndications (Closing and servicing), participations and letters of credit
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of complex, attorney prepared loan documents, including initial funding requirements, ongoing servicing requirements,
  • Strong analysis and administration skills with proven ability to draw conclusions and provide clear, concise assessments/analysis to senior management
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple responsibilities and deadlines
  • Ability to apply sound logic and judgment when making decisions
  • Results oriented, accountable, motivated and flexible
  • Strong PC skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Project
