Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Capital Markets Consultant with strong domain knowledge in commodities trading and hands-on experience in implementing or enhancing Commodity Trading and Risk Management (CTRM) or Energy Trading and Risk Management (ETRM) platforms. The candidate will work with commodity trading firms, energy companies, financial institutions, and technology teams to deliver end-to-end platform implementation and transformation initiatives. The role involves requirements gathering, business process analysis, functional solution design, system configuration, integration, testing, and implementation support across the commodities trade lifecycle. The ideal candidate will have a good understanding of physical and financial commodity trading, trade lifecycle management, risk and valuation processes, and the integration of trading platforms with downstream systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Commodities Domain Expertise
- Demonstrate strong understanding of commodities trading across one or more asset classes, including oil and refined products, natural gas, power, metals, agricultural commodities, or LNG.
- Understand physical and financial commodity trading processes, including spot, forward, futures, options, swaps, and structured contracts, as applicable.
- Analyse the end-to-end trade lifecycle, from deal capture and confirmation to scheduling, logistics, invoicing, settlement, and accounting.
- Understand key commercial terms such as pricing formulas, market indices, volume and quality specifications, delivery locations, incoterms, and contract terms.
- Support processes involving physical commodity movements, inventory management, nominations, scheduling, and logistics, where relevant.
- Understand commodity market risk concepts, including mark-to-market (MtM) valuation, position management, exposure analysis, and profit and loss (P&L) reporting.
- CTRM/ETRM Platform Implementation
- Participate in end-to-end implementation, enhancement, or migration of CTRM/ETRM platforms.
- Gather and analyse business requirements from trading, operations, risk, scheduling, finance, and settlement teams.
- Map business processes to platform capabilities and identify configuration requirements, functional gaps, and customisation needs.
- Prepare business requirements documents (BRDs), functional specifications, user stories, process flows, and configuration documentation.
- Support functional design, system configuration, reference data setup, workflow design, and trade template configuration.
- Work with technical teams on interfaces, data mapping, reports, extensions, and system integrations.
- Support fit-gap analysis and recommend standard platform capabilities or alternative solutions to minimise unnecessary customisation.
- Participate in data migration, reconciliation, and validation activities during platform rollouts.
- Commodities Trade Lifecycle and Functional Workflows
- Support implementation of deal capture and trade management workflows for physical and financial commodity transactions.
- Configure or validate contract structures, pricing formulas, delivery terms, payment terms, and trade amendments.
- Support physical commodity workflows covering inventory, logistics, scheduling, nominations, and movements, where applicable.
- Work on risk management processes, including position reporting, MtM valuation, market data management, and exposure analysis.
- Support settlements, invoicing, accounts payable/receivable, and integration with enterprise resource planning (ERP) and accounting systems.
- Validate trade lifecycle events, including amendments, cancellations, settlements, and period-end processing.
- Analyse exceptions, breaks, and reconciliation issues across trading, operations, risk, and finance systems.
- Integration and Data Management
- Work with technology teams to define and validate integrations between CTRM/ETRM platforms and external systems.
- Support interfaces with market data providers, exchanges, brokers, logistics providers, banks, ERP platforms, and risk or accounting systems.
- Assist with source-to-target data mapping, interface specifications, and field-level transformation rules.
- Support migration of trade data, contracts, counterparties, reference data, market curves, and relevant historical transactions.
- Validate data quality, completeness, and consistency across integrated systems.
- Use SQL, Excel, or equivalent tools for data analysis, reconciliation, and investigation of functional issues.
- Testing and Implementation Delivery
- Develop functional test scenarios and test cases covering end-to-end commodity trading workflows.
- Coordinate and execute System Integration Testing (SIT), User Acceptance Testing (UAT), regression testing, and end-to-end testing.
- Validate trade capture, pricing, valuation, position reporting, physical movements, invoicing, and settlement outcomes.
- Log defects, perform root-cause analysis, and coordinate resolution with product vendors and technical teams.
- Support mock migrations, cutover planning, go-live readiness assessments, and production validation.
- Provide post-implementation support, troubleshoot functional issues, and assist with stabilisation and hypercare activities.
- Maintain implementation documentation, issue logs, requirements traceability, and status reporting
- Stakeholder and Client Management
- Collaborate with traders, trading operations, risk managers, schedulers, finance teams, and IT stakeholders.
- Facilitate requirements workshops, process walkthroughs, solution demonstrations, and design discussions.
- Translate business requirements into clear functional specifications for technical teams and platform vendors.
- Manage assigned workstreams, dependencies, risks, issues, and deliverables.
- Communicate project progress and functional challenges to project managers and senior stakeholders.
- Mentor junior consultants and contribute to implementation best practices and reusable delivery assets.
