Safely Connected, The Eating Disorder Centre is a Canadian not-for-profit organization that provides support and education to youth and providers on the topic of eating disorders, body image issues, and disordered eating and exercise. We are an anti-ableist, anti-racist and anti-colonialist, fat- and body-positive, queer- and trans-positive, and pro-feminist organization. Our organization delivers training and resources to youth on post-secondary campuses to provide students with tools to understand and change the normalized behaviours that lead to and aggravate disordered eating and disordered exercising and create peer support spaces. We also delivers a variety of trainings to providers and care-givers on eating disorders, trauma-informed care, active listening, harm reduction, barriers to access, and the underrepresented experiences of marginalized communities in eating disorder care, and their necessary needs and accommodations. Our goal is to break down the barriers to conversation and validation of anyone's experiences to minimize the isolation of individuals who suffer from disordered eating on post-secondary campuses.

Job Description

The Administrative Assistant will be responsible for supporting the operations, workflows and planning of Safely Connected, The Eating Disorder Centre through email management, scheduling, planning and composition, filing, up-keeping, and editing of documents.

Tasks & Responsibilities: 

     1. Provide administrative support to the Executive Director to ensure efficient and effective operation of their responsibilities;

     2. Create and maintain filing systems;

     3. Draft agendas and take minutes at staff and general meetings, and ensure the proper distribution of those minutes; 

     4. Carry out administrative duties;

     5. Complete operational requirements by scheduling and assigning administrative projects and expediting work results;

     6. Support the Safely Connected, the Eating Disorder Centre team by performing tasks related to organization and strong communication;

     7. Schedule appointments and maintain calendars;

     8. Schedule and coordinate meetings and events; 

     9. Assist in the development of processes, workflows and instructions; 

     10. Prepare communications, such as memos, emails, invoices, reports, and other correspondence; and 

     11. Write and edit documents from letters to reports and instructional documents.

Qualifications

  1. No required education or past experience;
  2. Organized and capable of following through on a project;
  3.  Management and planning skills;
  4.  Administrative and organizational skills;
  5. Understanding of eating disorders, peer mental health support, and anti-oppressive practice in these areas;
  6. Past experience in administrative roles is an asset; and
  7. Strong communication skills both in English and French an asset;

Additional Information

  • Pay Rate: $16.55/ hour
  • Contract dates: June 24th, 2024 to August 18th, 2024;
  • Hours: 35 hours a week
  • Deadline to apply: May 17th, 2024

Requirements:

  • Must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period;
  • Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment;
  • Must have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
