The CAD Drafter is responsible for creating accurate, practical, and production-ready drawings to support steel fabrication operations. This position works with customer requirements, field measurements, work orders, and production specifications to develop drawings and machine-ready files.The ideal candidate will have experience with CAD drafting and a working knowledge of steel fabrication processes, including CNC and plasma machinery, welding, fastening methods, material utilization, and fabrication tolerances.
Responsibilities- Develop detailed drawings, layouts, and specifications using CAD software.
- Create accurate, production-ready drawings for steel fabrication and manufacturing.
- Review work orders, customer requirements, field measurements, and project specifications.
- Coordinate with sales, production, and other internal teams to resolve design or fabrication issues.
- Calculate dimensions, material requirements, and fabrication details.
- Optimize material usage and improve yield by using available remnants when appropriate.
- Meet with customers, when required, to develop preliminary designs and incorporate approved revisions.
- Develop working knowledge of multiple CAD platforms and machine-programming systems.
- Generate machine-ready files for CNC, plasma-cutting, and other fabrication equipment.
- Support fabrication processes involving the cutting, forming, fastening, welding, and joining of steel products.
- Assist with the programming or operation of fabrication equipment when required.
- Maintain accurate drawing revisions and project documentation.
- Participate in production meetings and project-planning activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Manufacturing, steel fabrication, drafting, or related experience preferred.
- Experience with 2D CAD software, including DraftSight, AutoCAD, or a similar platform.
- Ability to read and interpret work orders, blueprints, shop drawings, field measurements, and specifications.
- Understanding of steel fabrication processes, tolerances, and material requirements.
- Strong mathematical and measurement skills.
- Ability to plan and organize work with limited direct supervision.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience supporting CNC, plasma-cutting, or other fabrication equipment is preferred.
Physical and Work Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, reach, and use computer equipment throughout the workday.
- Ability to occasionally enter and move through active fabrication and production areas.
- Close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to work in an office environment with occasional exposure to production equipment, moderate to high noise levels, and active fabrication operations.
- Required use of designated personal protective equipment when entering production areas.

Compensation and Benefits
The base pay range for this position is $26.00 to $35.00 per hour.
Actual starting pay will be based on experience, qualifications, skills, internal equity, and other job-related considerations.
