The Role

Salary Range:

$76,500.00 - $127,500.00

Job Description:

We are looking for a Buyer/Planner, Staff to join our team in Laguna Niguel, CA. As a uniquely qualified candidate, you will be responsible for production planning and inventory control for multiple products and business units while prioritizing operations to ensure maximum performance and minimum delay. This individual will take a lead role in continuous improvement, product flow and capacity improvement to improve the overall efficiency of manufacturing while maintaining service level targets.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSABILITIES including but not limited to the following:

Business Essentials

  • Responsible for ensuring personal and company compliance with local and company regulations, policies and procedures for Health, Safety and Environmental compliance.
  • Participates and leads discussion with costumers around delivery schedules.
  • Analyzes, recommends and implements processes and procedures to provide accurate results on the inventory control of raw and/or any other materials.
  • Develop strategic objectives that focus on areas of quality, cost, flexibility, productivity and speed.
  • Demonstrate the ability to consistently deliver products and services to meet customer needs.
  • Recognize that continuous process improvement is an accepted way of life in business.
  • Accurately identify risks that affect supply, transformation, delivery and customer demand.
  • Visualize the total process and aid in locating problem areas using process mapping, quality improvement and visualization tools to locate, quantify and correct root causes of problems.

Execution, scheduling and control

  • Responsible for paperwork generation to support assigned product lines. This includes traveler issuing and closing, connecting jobs on the floor to orders in the system, and other activities typically performed by the production control function.
  • Implement and determine the appropriate scheduling technique to control capacity at work centers: Finite scheduling, Infinite scheduling, Forward scheduling, Backward scheduling to ensure sufficient capacity to implement MRP by using CRP.
  • Recommends and implement measures to improve production control methods.
  • Revises purchasing or planning documentation as appropriate.
  • Follow up production until reach ship date required
  • Close working relationship between manufacturing and materials management personnel.
  • Understand calculations for efficiency, utilization and productivity

Enterprise resources planning (ERP)

  • Cooperate in the alignment of the materials management strategy with the business strategies driving sales, marketing, finance and manufacturing.
  • Determine the need for capacity to address expected demand, execute the resulting plans, and update planning and financial information to reflect the results.
  • Understand output of materials requirement planning (MRP), capacity management and advanced planning system technologies.
  • Be capable of discussing and demonstrating the MRP gross-to-net explosion process while ̥̥have knowledge of planning utilizing action messaging, have knowledge of planning time fences in MRP, be capable of defining the types of replenishment orders found in the MRP grid, be capable of working with pegged requirements in MRP, know how to perform order rescheduling in MRP , understand the various MRP output reports, know when MRP is to be generate, have knowledge of detail capacity planning (CRP), have detailed knowledge of the CRP components (work centers, labor and machines, routings, setup times, run, standards and move times) necessary to run CRP.
  • Understand advanced planning systems relationships to MRP planning systems.
  • Collaborate in the S&OP process using EPICOR and APS systems including the forecast update, Production Scheduling, Work Center loading, Job Management using different tools
  • Promote the usage of the EPICOR and APS tools over manual/isolated spreadsheets.

Supply Chain & Inventory Management

  • Understand that supply chain management spans all movement and storage of raw materials, work-in-process inventory and finished goods from point of origin to point of consumption.
  • Demonstrate the ability to visualize the total process and aid in locating problem areas using process mapping, quality improvement and visualization tools to locate, quantify and correct root causes of problems.
  • Perform periodic evaluations to maintain processes by gathering pertinent information such as problem symptoms from knowledgeable sources and carrying these through to the problems, potential causes and root causes of the problem.
  • Active involvement in departmental inventory management strategies and objectives.
  • Know how to apply trade-off analysis to balance requirements of demand and supply.
  • Understand the different classes of inventory (raw materials, WIP, finished goods, MRO, service parts, damaged and obsolete).
  • Understand the difference between independent and dependent demand inventory.

Education and Experience:

  • BS or BA degree or equivalent
  • Minimum of 5 years of related work experience as a Production Planner or Supply Chain experience
  • APICS-CPIM certification a plus
  • Experience with ERP and APS  system with Epicor experience preferred.
  • Ability to work in a self-managed work team environment. 
  • Working knowledge of MS Office (especially excel) and ERP systems
  • Strong math and analytical skills
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and work ethic
  • Ability to multitask in a fast paced, dynamic environment
