Job Description
The Buyer plays a critical role in the company’s ability to deliver high-quality, cost-effective products through the ability to effectively source and contract direct material on a timely basis at the lowest cost consistent with forecast requirements. Coordinates supplier contact as to delivery status, specifications, C of A’s, material issues, etc. Communicates promptly to appropriate persons any material or delivery problems. Assists in establishing accurate production materials standard costs and monitor throughout the year. Supports supplier metrics and system development initiatives from ideation through implementation.
Annual Salary: $42,319 - $67,710
Essential Functions
No Interruptions in Material Supply

Monitors key supply agreements to ensure that they are adhered to. Works with vendors to resolve performance issues, track and report key supplier performance metrics.

Assists in the development and maintenance of related policies and procedures. Focus is on capital, maintenance, R&D and products in Development.

Negotiates and executes strategic partnership agreements (CDA, NDA, Contracts, and Supply agreements) with Key Suppliers as assigned.

Negotiates price and supply terms for selected major commodities and follows up to ensure timely deliveries.

Monitors and stays abreast of industry trends and advises management of opportunities and risk.

Develops and monitors timetables to ensure the availability of materials to support new product launch programs.
Vendors Perform to Expectations

Leads the resolution of supplier deviations by obtaining root cause and corrective actions in a timely manner with little to no disruption to production.

Implements both short and long term corrective actions and process improvements with suppliers to ensure continued product supply and compliance with applicable agreements and regulations.

Conducts on-site review of supplier facilities.

Coordinates, conducts and participates in meetings and discussions between suppliers and plant personnel.

Year-Over-Year Cost Reductions

Obtains the lowest possible cost through negotiation, competitive bidding, supply agreements and market and supplier knowledge.

Aggressively seeks and recommends cost-savings opportunities based on material substitution, new sources, improved systems or new items.

Actively participates in Lean and Six Sigma programs and initiatives.

Implements corporate purchasing agreements at the local level for total lowest costs.
Minimum Requirements
Education:
Bachelor’s degree preferred, preferably in Business, Logistics, Engineering, or Finance.
Experience:
-
1-3 years’ experience in a manufacturing setting. Familiarity with Production Scheduling and/or supporting disciplines of manufacturing.

Knowledge of products purchased, good purchasing practices and policies, Uniform Commercial Code (UCC), contract law and Material.

Requirements Planning (MRP) system.
License/Certification:
Lean/Six Sigma/APICS certified a plus.
