The Finance Technology team is seeking a Business Systems Engineer focused on Tax Technology to join our Boundary Applications team. In this role, you will serve as the primary owner of our tax determination and compliance systems, working at the intersection of tax policy, system architecture, and Oracle Fusion Cloud ERP integration. You will partner closely with our Oracle Engineering team and collaborate with stakeholders across Tax, Finance, Legal, and Procurement to ensure Lyft's tax systems are accurate, scalable, and audit-ready as we grow internationally. This is a high-impact opportunity to shape our global tax technology architecture during a critical period of expansion.
Responsibilities:- Own the end-to-end configuration, maintenance, and optimization of Lyft's tax determination platform (currently Vertex), including taxability rules, product mappings, jurisdiction configurations, and rate updates
- Evaluate and implement enhancements to the current tax technology stack to meet evolving global compliance requirements, including assessing alternative or complementary solutions where gaps exist
- Design and maintain integrations between tax systems and Oracle Fusion Cloud ERP, ensuring accurate tax determination across procure-to-pay, order-to-cash, and intercompany flows
- Manage and optimize Vertex tax engine settings for rental and lease transactions, ensuring accurate tax determination based on rental length, car-specific surcharges, and drop-off location requirements
- Translate complex international tax requirements, including VAT, GST, and digital services taxes across Europe, APAC, and Latin America, into precise system configurations and taxability rules
- Own Lyft's e-invoicing compliance program across applicable jurisdictions: design and maintain the technical architecture for generating, transmitting, and archiving government-compliant electronic invoices, including clearance model integrations (where invoices must be validated by a tax authority in real time before issuance) and post-audit model reporting (e.g., SAF-T, MTD in the UK, Italy, and equivalent frameworks in APAC and LatAm)
- Partner with the Oracle and other internal Engineering team and to drive integration architecture decisions, resolve data flow issues, and ensure sales, rental and use tax and e-invoicing logic is correctly applied across ERP subledgers and boundary applications
- Monitor regulatory changes across active and emerging jurisdictions, including evolving EU ViDA (VAT in the Digital Age) mandates and country-specific e-invoicing rollouts, and proactively implement system updates ahead of compliance deadlines
- Lead troubleshooting and resolution of tax calculation errors, integration failures, and audit findings across the tax systems ecosystem
- Develop and maintain thorough documentation of tax configurations, integration designs, and control evidence to support internal audit and SOX compliance
- Provide expert guidance and training to Finance and Tax stakeholders on system capabilities, limitations, and best practices
- Actively contribute to Boundary Applications team processes and engineering culture through knowledge sharing and technical mentoring
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Finance, Accounting, or a related field
- 4+ years of experience in tax technology or financial systems engineering roles
- 3+ years of hands-on configuration experience with a major tax determination platform (Vertex strongly preferred; experience with Avalara, Thomson Reuters ONESOURCE, Sovos, or similar solutions also valued)
- 3+ years of Oracle Fusion Cloud ERP experience with demonstrated understanding of tax integration points across AP, AR, and GL modules
- Proven experience configuring tax rules for multiple international jurisdictions, including VAT (EU/UK), GST (APAC), and/or US sales and use tax
- Experience with at least one full-cycle implementation of a tax engine integrated with Oracle ERP or a comparable enterprise financial system
- Hands-on experience implementing or operating e-invoicing solutions in at least one country with a mandatory government reporting framework; working knowledge of both clearance model (real-time tax authority validation) and post-audit model (periodic structured reporting) approaches, and the technical differences between them
- Working knowledge of at least two of the following frameworks: EU VAT in the Digital Age (ViDA), Italy FatturaPA, Spain SII, UK Making Tax Digital (MTD), SAF-T (Poland, Portugal, Norway or equivalent), India GST e-invoicing, Mexico CFDI, or Brazil NF-e/NFS-e
- Strong understanding of procure-to-pay and order-to-cash financial processes and how tax determination intersects with each
- Experience in API development or system integrations, with ability to review and contribute to integration designs
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate tax law and business requirements into technical system configurations
- Experience in a SOX-regulated environment and familiarity with ITGC controls around financial systems
- Excellent communication skills; comfortable presenting technical designs and compliance impacts to both technical teams and non-technical finance stakeholders
- Experience with boundary applications such as Concur, Zip HQ, Gtreasury, or UiPath is a plus

The expected base pay range for this position in the Toronto area is CAD $102,000 - CAD $127,500, not inclusive of potential equity offering, bonus or benefits. Salary ranges are dependent on a variety of factors, including qualifications, experience and geographic location.
