Illuminate USA is looking for a Senior BI Analyst to serve as a senior individual contributor on the Business Intelligence team, building and maintaining the dashboards, reports, and semantic models that turn plant floor and enterprise data into trusted, decision-ready information. This role takes on the more complex builds and data modeling work on the team, serves as the team's deep technical resource on Microsoft Fabric, and is a go-to resource for other analysts on Power BI and DAX questions, but does not carry the day-to-day workload assignment or people leadership responsibilities held by the Lead BI Analyst.
You will spend most of your time in Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, SQL, and the underlying data models, partnering with Operations, Supply Chain, Finance, Quality, and Plant leadership, as well as IT's Infrastructure, Cybersecurity, and Applications teams, to connect data from ERP, MES/OT systems, and the warehouse management system (WMS) into governed, reusable BI assets.
Key ResponsibilitiesBI Development & Delivery
- Design, build, and maintain dashboards, self-service reports, and executive scorecards in Power BI covering operations, supply chain, quality, and other business functions.
- Develop and maintain semantic layers, dataset designs, and DAX calculations for reports in your area, following the team's data modeling standards.
- Translate business requirements into technical specifications, wireframes, and report designs; run user acceptance testing with business stakeholders before release.
- Serve as the team's technical lead on Microsoft Fabric, designing and building lakehouses, data pipelines, Dataflows Gen2, and semantic models, and setting patterns for how the team uses Fabric as adoption expands.
- Optimize Fabric capacity usage, workspace and item architecture, and Direct Lake versus import model design for performance and cost.
- Troubleshoot and resolve data quality, performance, and refresh issues in reports and datasets you own, escalating systemic issues to the Application Manager.
- Own end-to-end ELT (Extract, Load, Transform) processes for BI data sources, including designing, building, and maintaining data pipelines that feed Fabric lakehouses and semantic models.
- Act as a go-to resource for other BI analysts on Power BI, DAX, and data modeling questions; review peers' report builds informally when asked.
- Help onboard new BI analysts and contractors to the team's tools, standards, and current project backlog.
- Follow and help refine the team's BI development standards, including naming conventions, folder structure, version control, and documentation practices.
- Apply enterprise data governance standards, including master data definitions, metadata, and data lineage, to the BI assets you build.
- Maintain metric definitions and calculation logic for reports you own in the enterprise metrics library, keeping them accurate and free of duplication.
- Contribute to the data catalog and lineage documentation (e.g., Microsoft Purview or equivalent) for datasets and reports you maintain.
- Flag data quality issues found during report development to the appropriate data steward or system owner and track remediation.
- Run requirements-gathering sessions and demos with business users, and support office hours and enablement sessions that build self-service BI adoption.
- Collaborate with the Infrastructure and Applications teams on data source connectivity, refresh scheduling, and performance for BI platforms.
- Support BI's participation in the IT Change Management process (Change Request Form, CAB review) for changes affecting reports, datasets, or data platforms.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 3+ years of experience in business intelligence or data analytics, including hands-on Power BI report and data model development, with at least 1 year working directly in Microsoft Fabric.
- Strong SQL skills and experience with data warehousing, data modeling, and ETL/ELT concepts.
- Experience with cloud computing platforms (Azure) and Azure-based data engineering tools and services (e.g., Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Lake Storage).
- Hands-on expertise with Power BI (DAX, Power Query, dataset and semantic model design).
- Deep, hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric, including lakehouse architecture, data pipelines, Dataflows Gen2, OneLake, semantic models, and Direct Lake versus import mode trade-offs.
- Experience working with data from ERP systems (e.g., Oracle) and, ideally, operational/OT systems such as MES, SCADA, or WMS.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical business users.
- Microsoft Fabric or Power BI certification (e.g., PL-300, DP-600).
- Experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment, including exposure to plant floor or OT data.
- Exposure to data governance concepts, data catalogs, or metadata management tools (e.g., Microsoft Purview, Collibra, or Informatica).
- Prior experience informally mentoring or reviewing the work of other analysts.
