Job Title:

APAC Business Finance – Analyst/ Associate

Job Responsibilities:

The Blackstone Group is looking for an Analyst/Associate level candidate to join the APAC Business Finance team based in Tokyo.  This candidate will be responsible for working closely with the Real Estate and Private Equity Groups’ acquisition, asset management, regional finance and tax teams on deal execution/transaction support, new product development and operations, financial operations and management, as well as financial and management reporting.  This role will be expected to collaborate across investment and support functions in Tokyo, regionally as well as globally.  This individual will report to a senior Business Finance team member based in Tokyo.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Support deal teams on acquisitions, management of portfolio companies and divestments

  • Lead/assist financial due diligence processes for acquisition opportunities

  • Support/coordinate investment structuring and entity establishment processes by working with internal/external tax and legal counsel

  • Review transaction documentation

  • Preparation of funds flow files

  • Drive and execute closing of transactions

  • Arrange capital calls and cash settlement

  • Drive quarterly distribution processes

  • For dispositions – work with asset management team/external service providers to:

    • Review closing statements for required tax/closing cost reserves and cash settlement

    • Prepare funds flow files for repatriations/distributions

  • Work with Hong Kong-based tax teams to design and implement tax structures

  • Post-closing assist investment/asset management teams to onboard investments

  • Help to drive and shape finance functions at portfolio companies

  • Manage external accounting and tax service providers, review legal entity management accounts

  • Responsible for quarterly and annual statutory, investor and valuation related reporting tasks such as review and analysis of quarterly NAV and cash and review of annual financial statements (JGAAP and IFRS)

  • Responsible for providing key inputs into the quarterly valuation process

  • Oversee cash payments and bank charges by working with both the Singapore based treasury team and external banks

  • Assist in various technology, data and process improvement initiatives

  • Works closely with other regional offices in Asia

  • Assist with ad-hoc requests/projects

Qualifications, Experience and Skills:

  • 5+ years of solid accounting experience. Candidates with lesser experience will be considered at the Analyst level.

  • Ideally with experience at a Big 4 accounting firm, private equity firm and/or financial institution/bank

  • Qualified accountant and/or MBA

  • Bilingual in English/Japanese, fluency in both spoken and written form

  • Proactive with strong partnering skills

  • Good communication skills are a must

  • Team player – ability to operate and communicate effectively within a global and regional team framework

  • Receptive to coaching and constructive feedback

  • Self-motivation and drive are critical

  • Strong analytical skills 

  • Attention to detail and process are critical

  • Inquisitive in nature and open to driving changes in process

  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (MS Excel, MS PowerPoint and MS Word) required

  • Experience in real estate and/or private equity fund inbound investment structures will be an advantage

  • Overseas working experiences is a plus
