The Role
As a Business Development Representative, you'll connect with government customers, arrange meetings, develop campaigns, and support sales teams while managing prospect data in a CRM.

Hi! We're Forerunner.

We believe that adaptation is a necessity, not a luxury, and communities deserve access to powerful software that helps them plan for the future. The challenge of climate change is complex – it implicates how governments plan, manage capital, and communicate to stakeholders. Forerunner helps government agencies do these things better by empowering them to access, understand, and mobilize local-level data at scale.

About the position:

We're looking for a talented Business Development Representative with 1-3 years of experience to join our company to provide support to our sales teams. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Identify high-potential government customers and execute outbound strategies to connect them to Forerunner

  • Move leads through the funnel, arranging meetings with an Account Executive

  • Develop and lead campaigns from idea-generation through to qualified calls and determine how best to scale them

  • Partner with Account Executives at Forerunner to build strategies and prospect into designated accounts

  • Effectively work through lead list meeting/exceeding SLAs, consistently update activity and contact information within the CRM system and support weekly reporting effort

In general, the Business Development Representative role may be a good fit if you:

  • Have demonstrable proficiency solving ambiguous problems. You are an analytical individual who enjoys creating structure where there is none, tackling problem solving creatively, and working collaboratively to achieve goals.

  • Have strong verbal and written communication skills. As a Business Development Representative, effective communication is vital. You should articulate ideas clearly in writing and verbally engage prospects to generate interest and meaningful connections.

  • Have an eye for detail. Attention to detail is crucial. You'll manage prospect data and interactions, ensuring accuracy in our CRM system to maintain an organized pipeline.

  • Strong interest in climate adaptation and technology. Your enthusiasm will drive your understanding of our products and enable you to communicate their value effectively to potential clients.

Our team has a lot to offer.

Forerunner is an early stage company with an interdisciplinary team. We are motivated by seemingly intractable problems and work hard to support one another.

  • We're mission-driven. Our mission orients our business strategy and pushes us to work with a sense of urgency. We’re in the weeds -- our entire team spends time engaging with our partners in the field to better understand the real-world problems they face.

  • We're a small team. As a member of our growing team, you will quickly become an invaluable part of our organization and have a meaningful impact on our business and technical direction. We welcome unique perspectives and backgrounds. Your opinion matters and we hope you'll share it.

  • We want you to be happy and healthy. Forerunner offers competitive compensation, health/vision/dental coverage, and commuter benefits. We also have a quarterly wellness reimbursement so that you can have flexibility in defining what “health” means to you.

  • The base pay for this position is $50,000-$80,000 annually with an OTE of $80,000-$110,000. This posting may span more than one career level. Compensation is determined based on a variety of factors, including an individual’s skills, experience and qualifications.

Skills Required

  • 1-3 years of experience in business development or sales
  • Proficiency in solving ambiguous problems
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail in managing prospect data

What We Do

Forerunner is a Series B company building the AI-powered intelligence layer for government agencies and regulated industries — helping large cities and counties finally make sense of the data they already have. Here's the problem we're solving: cities spend millions on permit systems, GIS, and asset management tools, but still can't answer their most important operational questions. Data sits fragmented across systems that don't talk to each other. Valuable observations from field crews never get captured. And none of today's tools help agencies connect the dots and take action. Forerunner sits on top of the tech stack agencies already have. We connect their existing systems, give frontline teams an AI-guided mobile experience to fill the gaps, and turn fragmented information into decisions and actions that reduce liability, surface revenue, and prevent issues from becoming emergencies. We serve nearly 200 governments across the country — and we're growing fast.

Why Work With Us

If you want to work on hard infrastructure problems that affect every community in America, with a team that's already trusted by the agencies on the front lines of it, we'd love to meet you.
