The Business Development Representative (BDR) is responsible for selling Caterpillar Compact Equipment and related solutions from an assigned Altorfer branch location. The BDR develops relationships with contractors, landscapers, municipalities, agricultural customers, and other equipment users while identifying opportunities to grow machine, attachment, rental, parts, service, and financing sales.

This role serves as a local equipment specialist and is responsible for generating revenue through customer walk-ins, inbound inquiries, digital leads, branch activity, prospecting, and customer relationship development. The BDR maintains a consistent presence within the local market and works closely with Machine Sales Representatives, Rental, Parts, Service, and Marketing teams to deliver a best-in-class customer experience.

Basic Duties

Essential Responsibilities

Machine Sales & Territory Growth

  • Sell Cat Compact Equipment, work tools, attachments, and related solutions within the assigned market area.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with existing customers while identifying opportunities to acquire new customers.
  • Establish and achieve annual sales objectives for equipment, parts, service, work tools, financing, and customer support solutions.
  • Prepare and present quotations, financing options, machine recommendations, and complete sales proposals.
  • Manage the sales process from prospecting through delivery and follow-up.
  • Participate in equipment demonstrations, trade shows, and branch events.
  • Maintain a target level of customer activity through outbound calls, emails, and customer visits.

Compact Equipment Solution Selling

  • Conduct customer needs assessments and recommend equipment solutions that match customer applications and business objectives.
  • Promote Compact Track Loaders, Skid Steers, Mini Excavators, Small Wheel Loaders, Telehandlers, and associated work tools.
  • Maintain current knowledge of Caterpillar products, competitive equipment, technology offerings, and financing programs.
  • Assist customers in identifying productivity, safety, and operational improvements through equipment solutions.

Customer Development & Account Management

  • Build relationships with contractors, municipalities, agricultural customers, landscapers, property owners, and other equipment users.
  • Regularly contact existing customers to identify equipment replacement, rental, attachment, parts, and service opportunities.
  • Prospect within the local market to identify new-to-Altorfer customers.
  • Maintain high levels of customer satisfaction throughout the ownership experience.

CRM & Sales Administration

  • Utilize CRM as the primary tool for customer management, opportunity tracking, follow-up activities, and forecasting.
  • Document customer interactions, quotations, opportunities, and sales activities.
  • Maintain an active pipeline of opportunities and accurately forecast future business.
  • Participate in sales meetings, pipeline reviews, and branch planning activities.

Product Support & Cross Selling

  • Promote Caterpillar parts, service, maintenance programs, CVAs, rental solutions, and financing options.
  • Collaborate with rental, parts, service, and machine sales personnel to maximize customer opportunities.
  • Identify opportunities to increase customer engagement across multiple Altorfer business units.
Qualifications
 
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Construction Management, Agriculture, or a related field.
  • Previous sales experience in construction equipment, agriculture equipment, rental equipment, heavy trucks, industrial products, building materials, or related industries.
  • Experience working directly with contractors, municipalities, landscapers, agricultural customers, or industrial accounts.
  • Familiarity with Caterpillar equipment, compact construction equipment, attachments, and work tools.
  • Experience using CRM systems to manage customer relationships and sales opportunities.
  • Proven track record of achieving sales goals and developing customer relationships.

Payrate: $50,000 - $100,000 annually

Work in an office environment, sitting at a desk for a period of time to answer phone calls or use a keyboard to complete documents and communicate through email.  May on a continuous basis walk, bend and lift up to 75lbs. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
