The Business Development Manager – Cell Culture is responsible for driving growth within Evonik Corporation’s Health Care Business Line across North America. This role focuses on prospecting, lead generation, strategic account development, and expanding market opportunities within the cell culture and biopharmaceutical sectors. The position supports revenue growth of Evonik’s cell culture portfolio by identifying new business opportunities, managing contracts, conducting market analysis, and collaborating cross-functionally to develop differentiated market strategies. The role operates regionally (primarily Northeast and West Coast U.S.) and contributes directly to ambitious long-term sales growth targets.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Drive prospecting and lead generation efforts within cell culture media, contract manufacturing, and biopharmaceutical companies across assigned regions.
- Develop new business opportunities while growing select existing accounts in North America.
- Identify and pursue strategic and innovative market opportunities for existing and new product offerings.
- Manage and negotiate contracts (NDAs, supply agreements, service agreements, material transfer agreements, quality agreements) with support from IP, legal, quality/regulatory, and internal BD teams.
- Conduct market analysis to identify industry trends, customer needs, and competitive positioning.
- Recommend differentiated value propositions and additional offerings to strengthen competitive advantage.
- Collaborate with product line teams to develop market strategies and strategic partnerships across the value chain.
- Represent the company at conferences, seminars, and trade events to build industry relationships and generate opportunities.
- Maintain accurate pipeline tracking, call reports, and internal updates for the Health Care team.
- Partner with internal stakeholders to develop targeted marketing programs for assigned accounts.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Pharmaceutical).
- Minimum 2 years of pharmaceutical experience ; in Sales or Technical roles.
- Proven experience in business development, sales, or account management within cell culture, biopharmaceutical, or life sciences industries.
- Strong prospecting, relationship-building, and lead generation capabilities in technical B2B environments.
- Demonstrated experience negotiating complex commercial agreements (NDAs, supply and service agreements, quality agreements, etc.).
- Ability to analyze market trends and translate insights into actionable growth strategies.
- Experience collaborating cross-functionally with legal, regulatory, IP, product management, and marketing teams.
- Strong understanding of cell culture and biopharmaceutical market landscape in North America.
- Excellent communication skills, including reporting, pipeline management, and internal stakeholder alignment.
- Ability to represent the organization professionally at industry conferences and customer meetings.
- Willingness to travel within the U.S., particularly Northeast and West Coast regions.
- Self-directed and strategically oriented, with the ability to drive ambitious sales growth targets (e.g., €2.5M in 2025 with >€20M ambition by 2032).
Summary Compensation & Benefits:
Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. (Specific rate to be determined, but not limited to, geographic location, education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities of applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data).
Pay Range: : : $111,800-$202,900
