As Business Development Manager, you will play a central role in driving the commercial strategy for one of the world’s most innovative fusion energy companies. You will help shape Focused Energy’s market positioning, commercial partnerships, early customers, and ecosystem strategy across Europe and beyond.
You will work closely with leadership across Technology, Commercial, Government Relations, and Strategy to secure partnerships, funding opportunities, and commercial pathways for fusion-based energy solutions.
Key ResponsibilitiesMarket & Strategy DevelopmentIdentify, analyze, and prioritize markets for Focused Energy’s fusion-based solutions across energy utilities, industry, research, and government sectors.
Conduct competitive landscape analyses and track global advancements in fusion energy markets.
Support the development of go-to-market strategies for fusion plants.
Build strategic partnerships with utilities, industrial tech companies, and public sector stakeholders.
Drive engagement with federal and state agencies (e.g., German Fusion Action Plan) to support implementation of Focused Energy’s solutions.
Represent Focused Energy at conferences, industry consortia, and investor-facing meetings.
Support preparation of commercial proposals, RFP responses (e.g., German Fusion Action Plan), and feasibility analyses.
Collaborate with science and technology teams to translate technical breakthroughs into commercially viable offerings.
Support project-level financial modeling and business case development for future fusion facilities.
Work cross-functionally with leadership, technical experts, finance, and communications on commercial strategy.
Help refine commercialization roadmaps for long-term product and service offerings (e.g., power plant deployment, energy delivery agreements, licensing models).
Fluent in German and English (written and spoken).
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business, Engineering, Science, Energy Management, or a related field.
3–8+ years of experience in Business Development, Strategy, Consulting, Energy, Deep Tech, or Industrial Technology.
Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills with the ability to work in highly technical environments.
Demonstrated experience building partnerships with industry, government, or technology stakeholders.
Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
Experience in energy markets, utilities, cleantech, photonics, engineering, or scientific/technical environments.
Familiarity with public sector funding mechanisms, industrial project development, or R&D-driven organizations.
Ability to work in an international, fast-paced, and innovative environment.
