About the role.
The Business Development Manager - Retail is responsible for driving profitable and sustainable retail business growth across Traditional Trade (TT), Modern Trade (MT), and E-Commerce channels. This role translates McCain's growth strategy into actionable channel and geography-specific plans, delivering sales growth, market expansion, distribution excellence, customer engagement, and profitability. The role also leads frontline sales teams, strengthens distributor and customer partnerships, and builds a culture of execution excellence across the retail ecosystem.
What you'll be doing.
- Own monthly, quarterly, and annual sales, volume, growth, and operating plan targets across TT, MT, and E-Commerce channels.
- Develop and execute channel, customer, and geography-specific business plans to achieve sustainable growth.
- Identify growth opportunities and implement corrective actions based on performance trends and business insights.
- Drive Traditional Trade expansion through new market development, outlet penetration, route-to-market optimization, and improved store productivity.
- Enhance SKU assortment, distribution reach, and execution standards across the retail universe.
- Manage key Modern Trade customers including Dmart, Reliance, Lulu, Metro, and other strategic accounts.
- Develop customer-specific growth plans covering assortment, distribution, visibility, promotions, new product launches, and productivity improvements.
- Drive E-Commerce and Quick Commerce growth by improving online availability, assortment, visibility, listings, and execution excellence.
- Manage distributor performance, including DMS adoption, inventory management, billing efficiency, service-level compliance, and financial health.
- Ensure effective governance, utilization, and performance management of freezer infrastructure assets.
- Lead, coach, and develop frontline sales teams to deliver high performance and execution excellence.
What you'll need to be successful.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Sales, Marketing, Commerce, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in retail sales, business development, or commercial roles within the FMCG industry.
- Strong understanding of Traditional Trade, Modern Trade, and E-Commerce business models.
- Experience in business planning, sales forecasting, target setting, and stock planning.
- Proven ability to identify growth opportunities across customers, channels, and geographies.
- Strong knowledge of route-to-market strategies, distribution management, and retail execution.
- Experience managing key accounts and distributor relationships.
- Sound commercial acumen, including distributor financial management, investment evaluation, and ROI analysis.
- Strong analytical, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop high-performing sales teams.

The Business Development Manager - Retail is part of the Commercial organization and works closely with Sales, Category, Operations, Supply Chain, and Customer Teams to deliver growth objectives across retail channels. The role leads frontline sales resources and collaborates with distributors and key customers to ensure strong market execution, business performance, and sustainable growth.
