The Firm-wide Control Management organization is responsible for having a deep understanding of the business, its underlying processes and the controls environment across several categories that cover Control design and performance, Risk and Controls identification & assessment, Issues and Actions governance, Controls Governance & Reporting, Program/Project governance and execution, Advisory, and Change Management amongst others.  The Control Management Organization is comprised of a central team representing the first line of defense for the business.

You will support the Control agenda for Canada Payments business, covering Merchant Services and Treasury Services; including but not limited to Merchant Acquiring, Receivables and Payables Products.

Job Responsibilities

  • Create a proactive risk and control culture that leverages proven evaluation strategies and sound change management protocols
  • Engage with control colleagues across the firm, business, operations management, legal, compliance, risk, audit, regulators and technology control functions
  • Execution and implementation of business control priorities and strategy – driving the control agenda through monitoring key operational risks, management concerns, strategic control initiatives, business evolution, risk and control governance and reporting
  • Review and analyze program related data (e.g., KRI/KPI) to proactively identify existing and emerging Operational risks and issues, to support business-related programs and strategies
  • Provide leadership support for the end-to-end execution of the firm’s operational risk self-assessment reporting process and system, i.e. CORE (Control and Operational Risk Evaluation).  This includes control deficiencies and resolutions, to reduce financial loss, regulatory exposure, and reputational risk
  • Coordinate and engage in Regulatory Exams and Audits (both internal and external)
  • Identification, documentation and remediation of control gaps, risk assessment and root cause issue analysis
  • Perform controls assessment for new initiatives within the region, raising to the business new risks or heightened risks and local nuances that should be formalized through internal instruments and framework for ensuring business growth with robust control environment
  • Support the execution of the Global Control Management agenda at regional level, socializing projects and demands, providing awareness sessions, performing due diligence and control assessments in order to ensure sustainability of the control environment
  • Support monitoring of internal and external changes impacting the control environment around implemented products at country level, escalating and addressing timely key topics and risks to ensure business readiness
  • Organize and provide updates to Local, Regional and Global Control Forums and to Business Management  

 

Required Qualifications, Capabilities and Skills
 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • 7+ years of financial service experience in controls, audit, quality assurance, risk management, or compliance preferred
  • Business Acumen:  ability to understand the business – knowledge of regulation surrounding the business 
  • Communication/Presentation:  excellent written and verbal communication skills with an ability to influence business leaders in a meaningful and actionable manner 
  • Networking:  exceptional interpersonal skills; exceptional collaboration and relationship building skills 
    • Work autonomously to affect change – flexible, adaptable to shifting priorities; manages competing priorities to achieve the most effective result and able to work in a fast-paced, results driven environment 
  • Process/Design Analysis:  ability to understand a process and associated risk to inform control design 
  • Problem Solving/Analytical Skills:  solid critical thinking, attention to detail and analytical skills; able to synthesize large amounts of data and formulate appropriate conclusions 
  • Change Management/Decisioning:  ability to make subjective and informed decisions based upon output, influence stakeholders and justify decision making
  • Proficient knowledge of control and risk management concepts with the ability to design, create and evaluate the operational risk and control environment in conjunction with business partners
  • Knowledge of Canadian Consumer Laws and Regulations.
