Job Description
Gunderson Dettmer is seeking a Business Analytics Specialist to work in one of our U.S. offices. In this role, you will support and operationalize Gunderson’s data reporting strategy in a highly collaborative, dynamic and fast-paced environment. As a member of the Analytics team, you will be responsible for the production, maintenance and delivery of automated recurrent and ad-hoc reporting in collaboration with the Finance, Innovation, Marketing, and Operations teams. Your support will enable the firm’s data-centric approach to strategic decision making.
This is a new role that is part of a growing function within the firm, providing significant opportunities for creativity and innovation. Your ability to be a self-starter and operate in a highly matrixed organization will be a great asset to the role.
Job Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with stakeholders from different business functions, such as IT, Finance, Marketing, Innovation, and Attorney Development, as well as practicing attorneys, to design and produce reports that are clear, informative, impactful, interactive and intuitive for both internal and external audiences.
  • Act as the go-to data visualization subject matter expert (SME) across the organization, fostering a data-driven culture by equipping colleagues with the tools, knowledge and upskilling they need to build and interpret data visualizations and dashboards.
  • Collaborate with data engineers and enterprise data warehouse architects to improve data quality and performance for analytics and ensure quality and access controls for dashboards and reports.
  • Perform ad-hoc analyses and data exploration to uncover insights.

Job Requirements

  • Ability to use Tableau creatively and leverage the platform’s full suite of advanced capabilities.
  • Demonstrated success on previous Tableau projects as a Creator working iteratively and collaboratively with SMEs.
  • Working knowledge of Tableau administrator architecture.
  • Significant experience building Tableau visualizations and dashboards using complex Dimensional Fact data models.
  • A solid understanding of SQL, relational database management system, data modeling and normalization.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate and communicate with colleagues and external parties, including an ability to translate user requirements into desired outputs.
  • Strong problem solving, quantitative and analytical abilities.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to derive connections and synthesize information and facts.
  • Solid grasp of UI/UX design principles.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to coordinate multiple competing tasks and demands, provide high levels of customer service and maintain a professional demeanor.
  • Ability to keep current with new developments, master new technologies, and adapt to change.

Educational/Experience and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree (preferably in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Information Science or related disciplines).
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel.
  • 5+ years developing data visualizations and dashboards in Tableau.
  • Experience in a professional services or law firm environment (Preferred).
  • Experience in or knowledge of the venture capital market (Preferred).
  • Tableau certifications (Preferred).

Status

  • Full Time, Non-Exempt.

The expected starting salary for this position is $100,000 to $135,000 annually, dependent upon qualifications, experience and location.
