Wachsman is now seeking a talented Broadcast Media Relations Specialist to join the Media Team and lead all Broadcast efforts, both for the agency and clients, for immediate hire. Wachsman US operates as a remote company, but the ideal candidate would be based in the New York City area with flexibility to travel if needed. 

 

The Role:

The Broadcast Media Relations Specialist will support both the agency’s growing client roster and Wachsman’s brand. The ideal candidate will be a broadcast media relations professional with strong existing relationships with decision makers at top mainstream media outlets, ideally executive producers, producers, and bookers - or has previous broadcast production/journalism experience. This candidate will love the thrill of the chase and be creative about connecting with executive producers, producers, and bookers and getting them interested in story ideas tied to our client roster. We are looking for an active viewer of all kinds of media who knows how to translate what they see into content for their own clientele. This is a rare opportunity to build experience in a revolutionary space across a range of client sectors and work directly with the agency to help build visibility for our brand and accelerate your professional growth.

 

The role will be responsible for both strategy and program execution. As a media expert, you will provide support to the account teams, help lead and execute media relations initiatives, and develop press materials. You’ll be a senior member of the leadership team and work alongside the existing high-caliber talent on our leadership team.

 

Core Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates expertise in broadcast media relations
  • Communicates big-picture logistics, creative story ideas, and media tactics to the team
  • Craft media pitches using excellent writing skills, as well as your own unique vision; defines and adjusts strategies appropriately
  • Provides direct counsel and is seen as a media expert plus a valuable partner by the client
  • Drafts press materials (e.g. media pitches or press releases) requiring minimal edits from senior leaders
  • Writes and edits client materials
  • Able to lead client meetings and presentations independently
  • Works alongside the CEO to build visibility for the agency
  • Facilitates professional development opportunities for the agency (i.e. lunch and learns, etc.)
  • Leadership: takes responsibility for their own actions and is a team player. Leads the team to the common goal of producing innovative and interesting media angles to gain the interest of top-tier broadcast news outlets.
  • Seeks new development opportunities to refine skills and industry expertise
  • Serving as a trusted adviser, providing new thinking/strategic insight to clients and across the consultancy, and communicating effectively with a strong personal presence and impact.
  • Maintaining a thorough understanding of the dynamics and workings of the agency’s process as it relates to the client’s business.
  • Demonstrating a commitment to industry, agency, and clients by mastering industry knowledge and understanding clients’ businesses.

 

Skills & Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in journalism, communications, digital media, or a related field is preferred but not required.
  • Preferably 8-10 years of broadcast production, journalist experience, broadcast booking experience, or agency experience with demonstrated success of broadcast media placements.
  • Excellent news judgment, creative ideas, and writing skills are a must.
  • Established contacts in broadcast media outlets and the ability to develop unique story ideas.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Demonstrates exemplary follow-through and execution skills
  • Embraces new methodologies with an entrepreneurial spirit
  • Excellent communication, organizational, writing, and presentation skills
  • Aptitude for thinking creatively and sharing effective, creative ideas with clients.
  • Experience working with clients in financial technology, B2B technology, or similar industries.
  • Excellent knowledge of the media landscape. Must understand the technology and business media landscape inside and out.
  • Professional, client-ready demeanor and presence in all communications and interactions (video, email/slack, in-person when applicable).
  • Strong strategic-thinking skills; demonstrated ability to handle and tactfully manage stressful situations.
  • Demonstrates strong decision-making abilities and accountability.
  • Displays integrity and sound judgment when working with colleagues and clients.
  • Proactive problem-solving & solutions-oriented in internal and external matters.
  • Exceptional work ethic and motivation to excel in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to maintain high social, organizational, and professional standards in job-related activities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills: developing client rapport and building and maintaining strong working relationships. 
  • Experience working within the blockchain, crypto, and financial services industry is a plus.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States

The anticipated salary range for this role is $120,000-$140,000 annually. We have a market-based compensation structure. The salary for this position may vary based on a candidate’s experience, industry expertise, technical skills, and location.
