About this PositionPrimerica’s media production and broadcast department, PFN-TV, is seeking a Broadcast Engineer professional for our state-of-the-art production facility in Duluth, GA. This role would ensure smooth audio/visual transmission for live productions, broadcasts, webinars and online media by setting up, maintaining, and troubleshooting complex technical equipment like cameras, mixers, transmitters, encoders, translation platforms and other digital systems, working in-studio or on location to solve problems under pressure and adapt technology for high-quality, uninterrupted content delivery. The successful candidate will have a hands-on and quick-response approach to broadcast engineering. Outside of live events, this role will support ongoing maintenance and documentation of our productions systems and team member assets to keep our department up-to-date, streamlined and completing projects at the highest level. Thorough organizational habits and good communication skills in a fast-paced environment are essential.*THIS IS A TEMPORARY POSITION ESTIMATED FOR A 6-month assignment.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
Lead or assist engineering team in maintenance and updates to department infrastructure. Brainstorm and develop new solutions for operations and hardware. Interface with employees and freelancers to troubleshoot applications and systems. Assist in responding to facility outages and perform basic maintenance on video, audio, ethernet, fiber and other systems. Install, repair and maintain broadcast equipment as well as computer and IT equipment associated with the operation of broadcast signals and office functions. Research equipment and determine whether it appropriately supports the facility and improves the operation, streamlining operations while reducing errors. Identify solutions that may result in savings to the company.
- Manage and update broadcast audio/video streams and in-person meeting streams, including translation feeds. Schedule the broadcast and meeting events on in-house and vendor platforms. Initiate signal paths to translation and broadcast platforms. QC live uplink and downlink feeds during the events. Respond to issues and user feedback quickly to troubleshoot feeds in real time. Create trouble tickets and follow up with vendors on solutions. Close out connections after events. Create usage reports and follow up notes after each event.
- Install, configure, and maintain department workstations, laptops, servers and other hardware and software. Create user accounts with correct permissions and correct network access. Update operating systems, firmware and software as needed. Respond quickly to help team members troubleshoot hardware and software, potentially in real time during live events.
- Maintain a thorough inventory system to prevent loss, reduce downtime, improve efficiency, and support informed decisions on maintenance and replacement over the lifetime of our hardware. Enter key asset metadata in an inventory database. Track the movement of assets, and update other asset info as needed. Audit inventory as needed.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of computer workstations and server installation and maintenance.
- Knowledge of Apple OSX, Microsoft Windows and Linux platforms.
- Knowledge of Microsoft 365 Suite (Word, Excel, Teams, etc).
- Proficient in software-driven broadcast video equipment.
- Understanding of TCP/IP networks and other networking technologies.
- Understanding of digital TV (HD/SDI) signal formats.
- Understanding of physical and IP-based video and audio routing.
- Position requires excellent interpersonal skills. Position requires a cool, level-headed individual who works well under the pressures of “live” television.
- Strong hands-on, problem-solving skills with broadcast-related equipment and systems.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- TV, Media, Broadcast, Video Production
- 6 - 10 years
- Extensive hands-on knowledge of HD-SDI and IP-based video production hardware and software through every step of the production signal chain, in a broadcast environment.
- Experience with troubleshooting signal paths in both in-studio and on-location live productions.
- Strong organizational habits, with experience documenting hardware and workflows.
- Experience working with vendors and platforms to evaluate and troubleshoot issues.
- Understanding of the urgent needs of the live broadcast environment; ability to stay focused and productive in a fast-paced environment with constantly changing assignments.
- Must be a self-starter who can meet deadlines.
- The ability to work alone and in a team environment with engineers, freelancers, IT, and other departments.
- Proven ability to read and understand system signal flow diagrams for television control rooms and studio facilities.
- Excellent written and verbal skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficient with broadcast production systems such as: Ross Video Switcher and Routing Systems, Sony and Hitachi Cameras, Graphics Systems including Chyron and XPression, Ross OpenGear Frame Hardware, Haivision encoders/decoders, wireless audio and communications systems.
- Understanding of IP-based Audio/Video technologies such as Dante and NDI.
- KVM system programming and operations.
- AutoCAD or ARES Commander basic understanding/experience.
