Who We Are

The Farmer’s Dog is the fastest growing pet health service company in the US, and was born from a mission to change the landscape of pet health, providing dogs and their humans with honest, smart, and simple care – a fresh proposition in an industry riddled with manipulative and misleading marketing. We’re starting by radically improving the $100 billion pet food market, replacing bulk bags of highly-processed pellets with a personalized subscription service that sends healthy, freshly-made dog food, balanced by top veterinary nutritionists, directly to customers’ doors. Our ultimate goal is to create innovative, honest, and delightful experiences across all aspects of pet care, and we believe our direct-to-consumer business model, holistic approach to growth, and dynamic and forward-thinking culture uniquely position us to shepherd this backwards industry into the future.

To date, The Farmer’s Dog has delivered hundreds of millions of meals nationwide and raised over $150M in funding to help us build a company as healthy as the dogs who are eating those meals. Join us as we continue to develop ways of bringing peace of mind to our customers, health to their companions, and much-needed change to the way people feed and care for their pets.

Where You'll Come In

The Farmer’s Dog is looking for a Brand Content Writer to join our growing brand function. Our aim is to create the best available content on living happy, healthy lives with dogs, and to distribute it in the formats and places our audiences will find it most useful. In this role, you’ll conceive and write content for our digital magazine, for all social media platforms, for editorial and promotional email campaigns, product pages, and for things we haven’t even thought of yet.

The Brand Content Writer will ensure that anytime a dog lover is searching for an answer on dog care, we are there with the best, most trustworthy information and advice. You’ll help position us as a friendly authority on caring for your dog. You'll help us rank #1 in search, but you’ll also help create content that gets media attention, and solves problems for people. The Brand Content Writer will report directly to the Director of Content.

How You'll Make An Impact

  • Contributing day to day in conceiving and writing content for our digital magazine. This will be a primary focus of the role.
  • Contributing to newsletters, marketing emails, and our social channels. You’ll work on organic, product-driven, and paid content. You’ll write and edit content ideas in text, infographic, video, and other formats.
  • Taking the lead on developing ideas at all levels of ambition—from responsive, quick hits, to major, long-lead series. You’ll develop content that will appeal to new audience segments and bring our point of view to a mainstream audience, and content that will turn our existing leads into customers and customers into lifelong loyalists and advocates.
  • Contributing SEO-forward content ideas based on search trends, what’s happening in culture, and smart keyword strategy.
  • Writing everything from deeply researched, long-form articles on dog health for our Digest magazine, to captions for social posts and user-centric promotional email copy.
  • Helping to build our content calendar. This means determining what stories we should be writing/producing and then writing/producing them.

We're Excited About You Because

  • You have 5+ years working in an editorial capacity at a publisher, a publisher’s brand studio, or at a content agency as a writer or writer/editor. You have meaningful experience conceiving, researching, and writing long-form articles. This is a must-have. .
  • You have experience in writing research-driven, readable, lively content in many formats (including blog posts, social posts, video scripts, email).
  • You’re an audience-centric thinker and natural storyteller and aren’t bound by any one content type or length or platform. You have great ideas for how that 2000-word story you wrote could be promoted as an Instagram post.
  • You are steeped in SEO knowledge and best practices. You have experience with SEO-forward writing and can point to examples.
  • You love to dive deep into a topic and know it back to front.
  • You can quickly learn—and nail—brand voice in everything you write.
  • You can write up and down the funnel. You can write broad, awareness-generating stories, but you’re equally passionate about helping our existing customers understand our product better, and have a better experience with our brand.
  • Experience in the pet world ideal, but not necessary. Experience writing on topics related to science, health, or business preferred.
  • You have outstanding verbal and written skills, and painstaking attention to detail (you’ll research the smallest detail to get it right).
  • You have a strong personal interest for dogs (#mustlovedogs #longlivedogs).
