Description
We are looking for an exceptional individual to join our Active Chassis team as a Brake Controls Lead Calibration Engineer at GM's Milford Proving Grounds. Our team develops and delivers world-class vehicle dynamics performance to our customers through innovative chassis controls features on the exciting vehicles that will define the next generation of GM's future.
A Lead Calibration Engineer is responsible for coordinating and managing all calibration development activity for a given project or family of projects and the processes used by the entire lead calibration team. This Engineer will ensure that performance expectations are met, requirements are developed and understood, and SW / calibration deliverables are on time & on spec. The ideal candidate for this role will have a proven track record of successful product launches in the chassis controls field, calibration experience in a complex technology, in-depth knowledge of brake controls and vehicle dynamics, demonstrated leadership, planning, communication, teamwork, and prioritization skills.
Lead Calibration Engineers are expected to work cross-functionally with other groups and champion the resolution of system / vehicle-level performance issues. Current development activities are focused on the latest Cadillac, Chevrolet and Buick EV programs, L3/L4 Autonomous vehicles, and other upcoming projects.
Your Responsibilities:
- Champion the safety of GM's employees and customers
- Develop calibration strategy and execution plans for each program
- Provide technical direction to a team of brake feature calibration engineers and other lead calibrators
- Lead the delivery of on-time and defect-free calibration releases to program Controls Development / VeSCoM timing plan
- Represent lead calibration team before program and technical leadership
- Maintain a close working relationship with program leadership
- Identify resource needs (people, facilities, vehicles, equipment)
- Create and manage feature assignments and calibration responsibility map in CRETA
- Conduct calibration reviews to ensure high quality calibrations
- Manage vehicle development property usage
- Plan and execute off-site calibration test trips
- Assist calibration engineers as needed with issue resolution
- Mentor lead calibration engineers and technical specialists
- Spearhead the resolution of vehicle, system, and controls deficiencies
- Support resolution of vehicle, plant, durability/lab, or customer issues
- Generate requests for software changes, new features/functions, and safety improvements
- Utilize Problem Resolution Tracking System (PRTS)
- Adhere to all safety and regulatory requirements
Additional Description
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Engineering degree
- 5+ years of experience in Brake Controls calibration, vehicle dynamics, performance driving, vehicle integration
- 5+ years of Project Management / Project Leadership experience in the Brake Controls domain
- Demonstrated ability to lead the integration of complex controls features
- Experienced in data acquisition and analysis, calibration and validation processes
- Ability to analyze objective and subjective technical data and efficiently derive required changes to meet vehicle performance targets
- Solid understanding of SW development and release processes (V-Model)
- Demonstrated initiative to drive for results in areas of innovation and new development
- Quick learner, able to handle multiple projects, as well as planned and unplanned work
- High level of oral and written communication skills
- High level of interpersonal and collaboration skills across multiple disciplines
- Possess a valid driver's license, and ability to obtain GM Level 3 driving certification
- Ability to travel for winter testing activities in January / February - as needed
- Ability to travel for development & ride trips interspersed throughout the year
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledgeable in vehicle dynamics & subjective vehicle evaluation
- Experience with controls / algorithm development
- Current GM Level 3 driver or higher
- Performance driving or Off-Road driving enthusiast
- First-hand experience with GM calibration and development processes
- Demonstrated ability to successfully lead a team of engineers
- Experience and comfort interacting with senior leaders
- Experience working with global teams
