The Bookkeeper is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, recording daily transactions, reconciling accounts, and supporting the overall accounting operations of the organization. This role manages financial data entry, accounts payable and receivable activities, bank reconciliations, and financial reporting. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and knowledgeable about accounting principles and bookkeeping practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate financial records and bookkeeping systems.
  • Record daily financial transactions, including income, expenses, invoices, and payments.
  • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.
  • Prepare and process customer invoices and vendor payments.
  • Perform bank, credit card, and account reconciliations.
  • Monitor outstanding balances and assist with collections activities.
  • Maintain organized financial files and documentation.
  • Enter and update financial data in accounting software.
  • Review transactions for accuracy and proper account classification.
  • Assist with payroll processing and payroll-related recordkeeping.
  • Prepare financial reports, statements, and summaries for management review.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities.
  • Track expenses, receipts, and business transactions.
  • Maintain general ledger accounts and ensure accurate postings.
  • Support tax preparation activities by organizing financial records and reports.
  • Identify discrepancies and research accounting errors.
  • Assist with audits by providing required financial documentation.
  • Maintain confidentiality of financial information.
  • Perform other accounting and administrative duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration preferred.
  • 2+ years of bookkeeping, accounting, or financial administration experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles and practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential financial information.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, or Microsoft Dynamics.
  • Experience managing full-cycle bookkeeping.
  • Familiarity with payroll processing and tax reporting.
  • Understanding of financial statements, general ledger accounts, and reconciliations.
  • Experience supporting small businesses or multiple client accounts.
