JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for operational leadership of steam generation systems and support sugar mill supervisor on proper plant operations that support sugar production. Work involves ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable boiler performance while leading a team of operators and coordinating with maintenance and production teams. Drives continuous improvement, maximizes energy efficiency, cross-trains staff, and ensures compliance with all safety and environmental regulations.
Work is performed under general directions with extensive latitude in the use of initiative and independent judgment. Position relies on experience and subject-matter expertise to apply advanced concepts, techniques, and knowledge of processes.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

- Operates boilers and checks for the proper burning of bagasse and minimize the use of natural gas

Partners with maintenance teams to ensure proper preventative and predictive maintenance programs

Oversees inspections, repairs, and outages for boilers and related systems

Ensures equipment reliability and minimizes unplanned downtime

Maintains and operates boilers and auxiliary equipment in accordance with established operational procedures

Performs boiler internal inspections after lock-out and tag-out for cleaning; leads all boiler compliance testing

Ensures compliance with boiler performance standards and maintains accountability for safe and efficient operations

Recommends operational improvements to maximize plant efficiency

Availability for on-call coverage for emergency responses

Reports any accidents, mechanical issues or damage to company equipment promptly to the supervisor

Works collaboratively with other team members and supervisors to achieve project goals

Ensures the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times
-
Follows organizational and public safety guidelines and protocols, performs job functions in a safe manner, and reports all safety hazards per established policies and procedures
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

May schedule and motivate personnel; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; make recommendations regarding disciplinary action
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED and five (5) years of experience in bagasse and gas-fired boiler operations at an industrial facility, including some previous lead-worker responsibility or demonstrated ability to lead the work of others;
- OR a combination of experience, certification, education and training that demonstrates expertise in the related areas.
