The Bioprocess Engineer EHS supports safe and compliant operations across Upstream Processing (USP), Downstream Processing (DSP) and Media- and Buffer Supply (BMS) within Manufacturing Complex 2 (6 × 20 kL Large Scale Mammalian). Acting as the primary EHS point of contact for operations and project teams, this role ensures that safety expectations are embedded in daily manufacturing and project execution.
Key ResponsibilitiesSafety Leadership & Strategy- Develop and implement MC2 safety processes in alignment with site Visp and global SU safety strategies, including Vision Zero.
- Promote a proactive safety culture and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Act as Owner for LOTOTO planning and scope definition for assigned activities.
- Support consistent application of LOTOTO and key Permit‑to‑Work processes (e.g., hot work, confined space, line break).
- Provide coaching and guidance to ensure safe execution of permitted work.
- Lead safety-related aspects within multidisciplinary project teams.
- Serve as production safety expert for capital investment projects, supporting design, installation, and commissioning of new assets.
- Contribute to risk assessments (HAZOP, FMEA) and support safe troubleshooting and deviation management.
- Implement GMP documentation and regulatory requirements for SU assets and products, ensuring integration of EHS expectations.
- Ensure compliance with Swiss regulations, Lonza policies, and site standards.
- Support incident investigations and follow-up actions with structured problem-solving methods.
- Identify trends and improvement opportunities to strengthen operational safety.
- BSc/MSc with >5/3 years’ experience in biotechnology or related field.
- Strong safety relevant qualifications and experience from large project and commercial operations.
- Strong communication and leadership skills; collaborative team player.
- Structured, solution-oriented mindset (Lean Six Sigma Yellow/Green Belt preferred).
- Fluent in German and/or English; strong GMP knowledge.
