About the Role
We are looking for highly motivated interns to join our engineering team and work on **high-performance, low-latency systems** that operate under demanding throughput and latency requirements.
You will work closely with experienced engineers on performance-critical infrastructure, including high-throughput messaging, concurrent processing pipelines, networking, memory optimization, and latency-sensitive systems.
This internship is designed for candidates with strong fundamentals and exceptional learning potential. **Prior experience in low-latency or trading systems is not required.** We care more about your ability to understand complex systems, reason from first principles, and systematically make software faster and more efficient.
Responsibilities
- Design and optimize high-throughput, low-latency systems, including messaging infrastructure, concurrent processing pipelines, and networking.
- Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks across CPU, memory, operating systems, networking, and concurrency.
- Optimize memory allocation, data structures, serialization, and multithreaded processing to improve system efficiency.
- Explore advanced optimization techniques, including lock-free architectures, CPU affinity, and memory management.
- Build benchmarking and profiling tools to measure throughput, CPU efficiency, and latency (p50/p99/p999).
- Collaborate with experienced engineers to investigate complex system performance issues and deliver measurable improvements.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a Master's, MPhil, or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Systems, or a related technical field.
- Strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, operating systems, networking, memory management, and concurrency.
- Proficiency in at least one programming language, preferably C++, Rust, or Java.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to break complex problems into measurable hypotheses.
- Interest in understanding how software interacts with hardware and how system performance can be improved.
- Strong learning agility, curiosity, and the ability to quickly understand unfamiliar systems and technologies.
- Prior experience in low-latency or trading systems is not required.
Nice to Have
- Experience with high-performance computing, low-latency systems, multithreaded programming, or distributed systems.
- Knowledge of lock-free data structures, CPU caches, NUMA, SIMD, memory pools, or CPU affinity.
- Experience with Linux systems programming, network programming, RDMA, DPDK, io_uring, or eBPF.
- Familiarity with profiling, benchmarking, and performance analysis tools, such as perf or FlameGraph.
- Exposure to compiler/runtime optimization, database or storage internals, or high-performance serialization.
- Contributions to open-source systems projects or relevant academic research.
- Strong competitive programming background, such as ICPC, IOI, NOI, CCPC, or Codeforces.
