The Billing Assistant provides administrative support to the Revenue Cycle Department, with primary responsibility for verifying patient insurance eligibility and benefits before services are provided. This position also assists with a variety of entry-level billing and revenue cycle tasks to support accurate billing, timely reimbursement, and excellent patient service. The Billing Assistant works closely with health center staff and other members of the Revenue Cycle team to help ensure billing processes are completed accurately and efficiently. 

Who You Are:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office. 
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  •  Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to learn new computer systems and processes.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow HIPAA requirements.
  • Preferred (not required) 
  • Experience working in a medical office or healthcare setting.
  • Familiarity with health insurance or medical billing.
  • Experience using an electronic medical record (EMR) system.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel.

What You'll Do: (not limited to)

    The Billing Assistant performs a wide range of duties including, but not limited to the following:
     
    Insurance Verification Functions
  • Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits prior to scheduled appointments.
  • Confirm insurance coverage and identify any patient financial responsibility, such as copays or deductibles.
  • Check for referral or authorization requirements when applicable.
  • Enter and update insurance information accurately in the electronic medical record.
  • Review upcoming schedules to identify patients requiring insurance verification.
  • Contact insurance companies through payer portals or by phone when needed.
  • Communicate insurance information and financial responsibility to health center staff.
  • Assist in resolving basic insurance eligibility issues before the patient's appointment.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of insurance verification activities.
  • Follow HIPAA guidelines to protect patient confidentiality.
  • Billing Functions
  • Provide administrative support to the Revenue Cycle Department. 
  • Assist with basic billing tasks as assigned.
  • Help review accounts for missing or incomplete information.
  • Update patient and insurance information as needed.
  • Monitor department workqueues and assist with routine follow-up.
  • Assist with organizing billing documents and maintaining accurate records.
  • Respond to internal questions regarding insurance or billing information.
  • Assist with special projects and departmental initiatives.
  • Participate in training and team meetings.
  •  Provide excellent customer service to patients and internal staff.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Schedule:  
Full time position working hybrid style - 40 hours per week Monday through Friday from 9AM to 5PM.

Compensation:   
PPSAT's compensation philosophy is based on equity and transparency.  Each job at PPSAT is assigned a salary grade built on market data.  For an individual coming into PPSAT, we set a pay generally between the minimum and the midpoint of the salary grade and based on candidate qualifications.  The pay range for this position is $23.25 to $28.35 paid hourly.
