Bi-lingual (Spanish-English) Instructional Designer/Course Designer

ROLE OVERVIEW
TechChange is working with Freedom House, a non-profit organization focused on political advocacy surrounding issues of democracy, political freedom, and human rights, on a project to design and create a series of trainings in Spanish for human rights defenders and civil society organizations from across the Latin America and Caribbean region. We are looking for a bilingual (English and Spanish) contract instructional designer/learning strategist to work with the TechChange Learning & Training team to support the first phase of this project: course design. The instructional design contractor will provide bilingual, LATAM-based instructional design support, and serve as a lead liaison working with Freedom House SMEs to create the content in Spanish first, with TechChange project leads staff overseeing and guiding the process.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support with developing survey(s) for potential training participants to gather end-user motivations, challenges, and desires for training.
- Plan, co-design and co-faciltate two ideation workshops to define the learner personas, key goals and objectives, KSAs and topics for the course. One workshop will be facilitated by contractor in Spanish.
- Co-develop findings report for customer in English, detailing recommendations for the course structure, virtual strategy, and key topics.
- Review source content (presentations, guidebooks, reference materials, etc.) to be included or considered in the course.
- Participate in internal project team (non-customer) design/planning sessions, incorporating outputs from the ideation phase, to develop proposed activity, assessment, and technology recommendations for the training
- Co-develop an initial course outline and/or agenda for the Digital Security Course.
- Participate in project management team meetings (likely weekly but could be more or less frequent depending on the needs of the project)
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in education or instructional design or equivalent job experience
- 3+ years of experience in education, training, instructional design, curriculum development for adult/professional audiences and/or other relevant experience
- A strong understanding of online learning and pedagogical principles and techniques and/or experience developing training for online/hybrid environment
- Human-centered design (HCD)/design-thinking experience valued
- Strong project management and organization skills
- Experience with International Development, Global Health, Government, NGOs not required, but a plus
- Experience with virtual facilitation tools, not required but a plus: Miro, Slido or Mentimeter, Zoom (or similar video conferencing tools)
- Fluency in Spanish and English is required.
COMPENSATION
Compensation: $35/hour USD
Estimated Level of Effort: 15 Days/120 Hours over 3-4 months.
Potential for extension to course development in 2025.

Remote (distributed, work-from-home structure); flexible East Coast hours while serving global clients.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The position will require extensive time sitting or standing and viewing computer screens from a home setup. The following capabilities may be required to perform this position's essential functions. Reasonable accommodations can be made available to address the following requirements.

- Ability to travel in the US and internationally (less than 10% time, when appropriate)
