Backend Software Engineer (PHP / Laravel)

You’ll help build and maintain backend services that power patient and provider experiences—reliable APIs, data workflows, and integrations that support care delivery at scale.
We’re looking for a Backend Software Engineer with strong PHP / Laravel experience to build and improve core platform services. You’ll collaborate closely with product, frontend, and mobile engineers to ship features end-to-end, raise code quality, and improve performance and reliability.
- Build and maintain backend services and REST APIs in Laravel/PHP.
- Design data models, write migrations, and optimize queries for MySQL/PostgreSQL.
- Improve performance and reliability (monitoring, debugging, incident support, root-cause fixes).
- Write and maintain automated tests (unit/feature/integration) and contribute to code reviews.
- Support and improve CI/CD pipelines and environments (Docker, GitHub Actions).
- Collaborate across teams to ensure smooth integration between services and clients.
- Document APIs and key system workflows clearly for the team.
Requirements
- 3+ years building production systems with PHP and Laravel (or equivalent experience).
- Strong understanding of relational databases (MySQL or PostgreSQL) and query optimization.
- Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs (authentication, pagination, versioning).
- Comfort with Git and modern development workflows (PRs, reviews, CI/CD).
- Experience writing automated tests (PHPUnit and/or Pest).
- Clear communicator who can collaborate in a remote team.
- Redis, queues, background jobs, and event-driven patterns.
- Cloud experience (AWS/GCP/Azure).
- Familiarity with data interoperability standards such as HL7 2.x and FHIR for health information exchange, and integration engines like Mirth Connect.
