Role Overview

We’re looking for a Backend Engineer to help build the systems behind Ontinue’s internal and customer-facing experiences. This is not a classic “just build APIs” role. You’ll work on services and systems that power product experiences, investigation workflows, and customer-facing platforms — with real business logic, storage, event-driven architecture, and performance-sensitive data flows.

We’re moving fast, and we’re doing it with a strong AI-first mindset. That means we don’t expect every solution to be built in the traditional way. We’re looking for someone who is comfortable working with AI-assisted development tools, open to new technologies, and eager to help shape a more efficient way of building software. The right person will bring solid engineering fundamentals, together with a product mindset and the flexibility to adapt how work gets done.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and evolve backend services that support both internal tools and customer-facing experiences
• Design and implement APIs, event-driven workflows, and services in .NET / C#
• Work with Azure services such as Service Bus, Azure Functions, Azure Storage, and related cloud services
• Help shape the systems behind products used by SOC analysts, internal teams, and customers
• Contribute to backend parts of frontend-heavy product initiatives where business logic, data, and system behavior matter
• Improve existing systems while also helping create new services and features
• Work closely with frontend engineers, product stakeholders, and other teams to deliver thoughtful solutions
• Use AI-assisted development tools in your day-to-day work to increase speed, quality, and leverage
• Help us evolve how engineering works in an AI-enabled environment
• Contribute to our CI/CD and infrastructure workflows, including Terraform where applicable
• Play a meaningful role in cybersecurity by helping make security operations more efficient and effective in a space that is always relevant

Required Experience & Skills

Required

• At least 4 years of professional software engineering experience
• Strong experience with .NET and C#
• Practical experience with Azure and cloud-based service development
• Experience building or maintaining event-driven systems
• Solid software engineering fundamentals, including writing maintainable code, understanding system behavior, and working thoughtfully with testing, debugging, and architecture
• Comfortable working in a collaborative product environment where requirements can evolve
• Curious, adaptable, and open to working in new ways, especially with AI-assisted development
• A mindset that combines engineering rigor with product thinking
• Clear communicator who enjoys working across teams and sharing feedback

Preferred

• A degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field
• Frontend exposure or experience working closely with frontend-heavy teams
• Experience with automated testing and test strategy
• Experience with Terraform or infrastructure-as-code workflows
• Experience working on product-oriented software rather than purely platform/backend infrastructure
• Experience with distributed systems, microservices, or data-heavy systems
• Familiarity with modern developer tooling and AI-enabled workflow
