What We're Looking For
We’re looking for a Back-end Engineer (Java) who’s eager to grow, take on meaningful technical challenges, and contribute to building the next generation of payments infrastructure. If you enjoy writing clean, reliable code and care about why things are built, how they impact users and the business,and want to work in a team where your contributions make a visible impact—this role is for you.
You’ll be part of our Payment Experience Squad, a key driver behind a cutting-edge internal platform that powers payment flows across the entire organization. Payments here are business-critical: they directly impact conversion, revenue, and user trust. We’re reimagining how payment processes should work—focusing on automation, scalability, and reliability.
As part of a highly collaborative team, you’ll work alongside experienced engineers and domain experts in infrastructure, distributed systems, and cloud-native development. You’ll have a strong voice in technical discussions, be encouraged to ask “why”, challenge assumptions, and propose improvements ,and gradually move towards end-to-end ownership of the services you buildt. This is a great opportunity to deepen your back-end engineering expertise while contributing to a product that touches nearly every part of the company.
Key responsibilities:
Collaborate across disciplines: Work closely with cross-functional teams including Frontend/Backend Engineers, Infrastructure, QA (SDET), and Product Managers to design, develop, and deliver innovative solutions that drive real impact.
Design and implement robust systems: Translate both functional and non-functional requirements into scalable, reliable, and maintainable software. Make thoughtful technical trade-offs with long-term sustainability in mind. Your code will directly shape user experiences and system integrity.
Build and operate microservices: Develop, deploy, and maintain high-performance microservices using Spring Boot. Own your services end-to-end — from design and implementation to production operation, monitoring, and support.
Operate in cloud-native environments: Manage deployments and configurations across various Kubernetes clusters, ensuring smooth rollouts and minimal downtime in production and staging environments. Participate in production support and incident investigation when needed.
Champion system excellence: Take responsibility for the performance, scalability, security, and data consistency of the systems your team owns. Proactively identify bottlenecks, risks, and technical debt, and suggest improvements.
Drive engineering best practices: Promote clean code, test automation, continuous integration, and DevOps principles. Contribute to code reviews, share knowledge, and help raise the overall engineering bar of the team.
Required skills:
Proven Java expertise: At least 3 years of hands-on experience building robust, high-performance applications using Java in production environments.
Microservices architecture knowledge: A strong grasp of microservices principles, with a track record of designing and scaling distributed systems effectively.
Spring Boot mastery: Deep, practical experience with the Spring Boot ecosystem—particularly with Spring MVC, RESTful services, Spring Data, Security, and messaging integrations.
Database skills: Solid experience working with relational databases like PostgreSQL, including an understanding of relational database design, query optimization, and overall data architecture.
Cloud infrastructure and Cloud-native deployment experience: Previous experience with AWS or another major cloud provider; practical experience deploying and managing services in Kubernetes across multiple environments (e.g., dev, staging, production).
API and communication protocol fluency: Comfort working with REST, gRPC, messaging systems, and asynchronous communication patterns.
CI/CD and DevOps mindset: A solid understanding of modern CI/CD pipelines, quality gates, and automation practices that support fast, safe releases.
Quality-first approach: Demonstrated experience writing comprehensive unit, integration, and API tests for microservices-based systems, and caring about reliability in production.
High proficiency in both written and spoken English, enabling seamless collaboration in an international team.
Nice to have:
Domain-Driven Design (DDD) exposure: Some experience or familiarity with modeling business domains, understanding bounded contexts, and structuring services around business concepts, ideally in complex or business-critical areas.
Exposure to payment systems or financial flows: Basic understanding or hands-on experience with payment-related concepts such as authorization, refunds, retries, idempotency, or integrations with external payment providers (PSPs).
Experience working in cross-functional product teams: Working alongside Product Managers, QA, Frontend, Infrastructure, and other stakeholders, with involvement in discussions around solution design and trade-offs.
