General Overview:
We are hiring for our client, a well-established insurance organization, seeking a high-calibre SME Underwriter to strengthen their growing portfolio. This role is suited for a technically strong and commercially aware professional who can navigate underwriting decisions while actively contributing to business growth.
You will play a pivotal role at the intersection of underwriting and distribution, working closely with sales teams and leveraging digital tools to enhance efficiency, improve turnaround times, and deliver sustainable portfolio performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Underwrite SME risks across Property, Casualty, Financial Lines, and related products
- Assess client financials, risk exposures, and business profiles to determine pricing and coverage structures
- Collaborate with sales teams, brokers, and distribution partners to support acquisition and retention strategies
- Drive underwriting decisions aligned with profitability targets and loss ratio management
- Utilize digital platforms, CRM systems, and analytics tools to streamline underwriting processes
- Review renewals, endorsements, and policy changes with a focus on risk quality and client value
- Track portfolio performance and recommend adjustments to maintain underwriting discipline
- Contribute to product enhancements, pricing inputs, and process optimization initiatives
- Ensure adherence to internal guidelines, compliance standards, and audit requirements
Key Requirements:
- 5–7 years of SME underwriting experience within reputable insurance organizations
- Exposure to both underwriting and business-facing or distribution environments
- Bachelor’s or postgraduate degree in Commerce, Finance, Insurance, or a related field
- Professional insurance certifications are an advantage
- Strong knowledge of SME products including Property, Liability, Engineering, Marine, or package policies
- Familiarity with digital underwriting tools and data-driven decision-making approaches
- Strong analytical thinking with sound underwriting judgment
- Effective communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to balance technical underwriting with commercial objectives
