About This Job
Axos is seeking a data-driven professional to join our Retail Lending Strategy team as an AVP, Quantitative Risk Analyst. In this role, you’ll apply analytical thinking, portfolio analysis, and strategic insight to improve the performance and risk management of our retail loan products. You’ll collaborate with underwriting, business leaders, and analytics teams to develop tools and insights that drive smarter lending decisions.This is a high-impact role ideal for someone with strong quantitative skills and a passion for solving complex problems — whether you come from banking, fintech, consulting, or another analytical field.
Responsibilities:
- Analyze retail loan performance data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for optimization
- Develop and refine underwriting models, evaluation rules, and decisioning tools to support automated loan approvals and portfolio management
- Evaluate borrower profiles, credit bureau data, and fraud indicators to inform risk scoring and lending strategies
- Partner with underwriting and business leaders to translate data insights into actionable strategies aligned with regulatory and business goals
- Define dashboard requirements and collaborate with BI teams to deliver real-time portfolio performance metrics using tools like Tableau
- Act as a liaison between data teams and business stakeholders, ensuring insights are clearly communicated and effectively applied
- Mentor junior analysts in modeling techniques, stakeholder engagement, and data storytelling
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or a related field
- 3+ years of experience in quantitative analysis, risk modeling, or portfolio analytics (banking experience is a plus, but not required)
- Intermediate SQL experience (ability to write queries, join tables, and manipulate datasets)
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookup formulas, logic-based rules like IF, COUNTIFS, SUMIFS)
- Strong attention to detail and ability to validate your own work
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
