Are you passionate about automation that doesn’t just save clicks, but changes how an entire engineering organisation builds software?

As an Automation Engineer, you'll build the development and testing platform automation harnesses that answer that question for Jagex. Working as part of a centralised Delivery Engineering team, you'll produce, maintain and evolve the shared testing infrastructure and development tooling that engineering teams rely on, from local development environments through to CI build and deployment.

You'll work closely with other Automation Engineers and with the engineering teams you support, reducing reliance on manual effort and maximising efficiency gains through automated tooling, so product quality stays consistent and functional and non-functional requirements are met.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Build and scale automation capabilities as part of a centralised Delivery Engineering team, giving software and operations engineering teams across Jagex the tooling they need to work faster and more consistently.
  • Deliver automated development and test harness capabilities at every stage of the software development lifecycle, embedding an automation first approach that cuts down manual effort across the business.
  • Embed with engineering teams to build white and black box automated testing frameworks across functional and non-functional areas, so quality is proven at every layer, not just on the surface.
  • Improve and upgrade our automation execution frameworks and introduce modern tooling, keeping Jagex ahead of industry best practice rather than catching up to it.
  • Champion modern automation practices and toolsets within engineering teams, exposing them to automation capabilities they haven't had before.
  • Get to know the codebases, flows and services behind the teams you support, understanding how components interact so the automation you build genuinely fits how they work.
  • Provide reporting and visualisation that gives engineering teams clear sight of software quality, health and KPIs, helping them avoid over or under optimising their systems.
  • Follow Jagex's architecture principles and development standards, and take part in cross-team discussions that shape how automation and tooling craft evolves across the business.

What we’re looking for:

  • Proven experience designing, developing and maintaining automation platforms, frameworks and tooling within a modern software engineering environment, with strong programming skills in one or more of C#, Java, Python, Go or TypeScript.
  • Demonstrable experience building and maintaining automated testing frameworks across functional, integration, API, UI, performance and non-functional testing, grounded in strong testing and quality engineering principles.
  • Strong working knowledge of CI/CD practices (such as GitHub Actions, TeamCity or Azure DevOps), infrastructure as code and configuration management tools (such as Terraform or Ansible), and containerisation and orchestration technologies including Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Good understanding of software architecture, distributed systems and microservices, with experience creating developer tooling or shared engineering platforms that improve engineering productivity.
  • Practical experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or Google Cloud Platform, and experience implementing quality metrics, reporting dashboards and visualisation tools to measure software quality.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with proven ability to identify manual processes and replace them with efficient automated solutions.

What we offer:

When you join Jagex you can look forward to a generous Perks & Benefits package including:

  • Private Healthcare, including Dental Plan.
  • Discretionary annual performance bonus.
  • Minimum 6% Pension contributions.
  • Life Insurance.
  • Enhanced family leave policies from day 1.
  • Flexible working hours.
  • 25 days annual leave + Bank holidays & the option to buy/sell holidays + so much more!
