Job Description:

Join the State of Nebraska Team as a Audit Intern through the SOS Temporary Program!
The SOS Temporary Program is the State of Nebraska’s inhouse staffing service, placing motivated talent into high impact, limited term roles that help keep the State’s agencies, boards, and commissions moving forward.  Every assignment is temporary and provides an opportunity to complete meaningful work while building new skills and connections and exploring career paths within state government.

**The Department of Revenue does NOT sponsor Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) Optional Practical Training (OPT) (Form I-983) or non-immigrant work visas for this position.**
This position is a 100% "working in office" position.
Expected Length of Temporary Assignment: 9/30/27


 

 The Department of Revenue (DOR) is seeking applicants who are interested in exploring a career in State taxation. This temporary job will provide a unique opportunity to learn about Nebraska's tax programs. Work performed by Audit interns will be under direct supervision of Audit staff.

Job Duties: Duties/ responsibilities may vary depending on workload and candidate's prior education/experience and may include:

1. Assists with audits in the field and in the office under the supervision of DOR auditors and management.
2. Assists in issuing Nebraska tax assessments based on audit results.
3. Performs research and data analysis by searching through all applicable sources.
4. Assists with other projects as assigned.


 

Requirements/Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at an accredited college or university (two-to-four-year institution) OR recently graduated (within one year) from an undergraduate or graduate degree program at an accredited college or university (two-to-four-year institution)


Preferred Qualifications: Candidates who have completed 12 hours of post-secondary accounting; familiarity with Microsoft Office, SQL, or other programming experience and exposure to state tax programs (sales, withholding, etc.).


Other: Please attach a copy of your transcripts!


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of: accounting principles, business administration, and business communications.


Skills in: use of Microsoft Office, specifically Excel.


Ability to: work independently, plan effectively, and maintain efficiency in workflow; work with a team under a work lead; learn and adapt quickly to new assignments.
